Fintech and Brokerage Startup Definedge Raises Rs 22 Crore in Pre-Series A Round to Scale Wealth-Tech Platforms

Pune-based fintech and brokerage startup Definedge has raised Rs 22 crore in a pre-Series A funding round, taking its total capital raised to date to Rs 30 crore. The all-equity round saw continued participation from existing backers Nitin Agarwal and D. Prasad, alongside new investors Anant Jain and Sachin Kasera.

Here's what makes Definedge's origin story unusual. Unlike most brokers who start with a licence and then go looking for customers, Definedge did it the other way round, founders Prashant Shah and Rajesh Badiye spent years building trading tools and an education community before the company ever became a broking firm. Today it runs more than a dozen platforms, including Opstra for options analytics, Zone for technical analysis, Algostra for no-code algorithmic trading, Momentify for rule-based investing, and Gurukul, its investor education ecosystem.

The fresh capital has a clear roadmap. Definedge plans to strengthen infrastructure and low-latency execution, scale its flagship Zone and Opstra products, expand Algostra into a full no-code retail algo-trading platform, and grow Momentify from a systematic investing tool into a broader wealth-creation platform. It's also targeting Rs 5,000 crore in assets under management through Momentify over the next 24 months, up from the Rs 1,000 crore it has already crossed.

The traction numbers back up the ambition. The startup's user base has grown 125% in the last 14 months and 10X over the last 36 months, and it opened roughly 60,000 demat accounts in the past 15 months without spending on marketing, a detail that makes this round's focus on marketing and distribution a genuinely new test for the company. Definedge is also applying for full GIFT City membership as it looks to expand beyond India.

Co-founder and CEO Prashant Shah summed up the company's approach simply, saying that unlike most startups, Definedge didn't begin with a brokerage licence, it began by building trust, knowledge and community, and its mission remains democratizing access to professional-grade trading tools and education for Indian traders and investors.

The bigger picture matters too. Indian fintech startups raised about $2 billion across 106 funding rounds in H1 2026, up 42% year-on-year, with established players like Groww, Zerodha, Angel One, Upstox and Dhan competing alongside newer entrants such as Sahi and Definedge itself.

From building trust before building a brokerage, Definedge is betting that tools and education, not just pricing, will win India's next generation of traders.
