Bounce Returns to Scooter Rentals with 14,000 EVs, Turns EBITDA Profitable in FY26

Bengaluru-based Bounce has made a strategic pivot back to its roots, resuming electric scooter rentals aimed at gig and delivery workers, deploying nearly 14,000 electric vehicles and setting its sights on a 20,000-vehicle fleet.

Here's the shift in business model. Bounce had earlier focused on selling electric scooters directly to consumers, but has now restarted rentals through its Bounce Daily arm, targeting gig and delivery workers who need two-wheelers for work without the upfront cost of buying one. The logic is straightforward, this model gives Bounce a recurring revenue stream while letting it put its own manufacturing capabilities to more direct use.

The numbers tell an encouraging story. Bounce reported Rs 44.05 crore in consolidated operating revenue in FY26, with rental services emerging as the largest contributor at Rs 35.78 crore, roughly 81% of total operating revenue. The company posted Rs 9.59 crore in consolidated EBITDA for the year, and people familiar with the business say Bounce has since reached profitability at the group level, recording a PAT margin of around 19% in July.

Here's the reality check worth understanding. That headline EBITDA figure includes some non-cash items, Rs 23.32 crore in other income came mainly from a GST input credit write-back, plus around Rs 11.4 crore in other non-cash expenses. After adjusting for these one-off items and ESOP costs, Bounce's adjusted EBITDA actually stood at a loss of Rs 1.83 crore in FY26, with a consolidated net loss of Rs 5.48 crore. The underlying trend is real, but the profitability milestone needs that context.

The bigger picture makes sense of the pivot. As scooter sales declined, material costs fell sharply while rental income became the dominant revenue driver, total expenses stood at around Rs 76 crore for the year. With India's delivery and quick commerce boom driving surging demand for two-wheelers, EV rental models like Bounce Daily are positioned right where gig economy growth and mobility infrastructure intersect.

From selling scooters to renting them out, Bounce's return to its original playbook shows sometimes the old model just needed better timing.
