Bhavish Aggarwal Pledges 4.32% Ola Electric Stake to Fund the Company’s Rs 1,000 Crore Rights Issue

Ola Electric founder and Chairman Bhavish Aggarwal has pledged a 4.32% stake in the electric two-wheeler maker, roughly 20 crore shares, to fund his personal participation in the company’s proposed rights issue of up to Rs 1,000 crore, with the pledge created on September 30, 2026.

imageHere’s why this move matters and what it signals. The rights issue itself was approved by Ola Electric’s board on September 28, and the pledge was disclosed in the company’s Draft Letter of Offer the same day, part of standard regulatory disclosure around promoter actions tied to a capital raise. Ola Electric was clear on one point, no shares are actually being sold as part of this arrangement, and there are currently no other pledges on Aggarwal’s holdings. Instead, the pledge simply gives him collateral to secure funding so he can subscribe to his full entitlement in the rights issue, on the exact same terms as every other eligible shareholder.

The ownership math behind this decision is worth understanding. Aggarwal currently holds a 26.5% stake in Ola Electric, with co-founder Ankush Aggarwal holding another 2.98% through the Indus Trust. By fully subscribing to his portion of the rights issue rather than skipping it, Aggarwal ensures his proportional ownership stays intact once the new shares are issued, avoiding the dilution that would otherwise hit his stake. Based on Ola Electric’s October 1 closing price of Rs 37.08, the pledged 4.32% stake was valued at approximately Rs 741 crore.

The bigger financial picture adds useful context. This rights issue comes just months after Ola Electric raised Rs 780 crore through a Qualified Institutional Placement in June, giving the company another layer of balance-sheet support as it continues defending its position in India’s competitive EV two-wheeler market. The specific rights issue price, entitlement ratio, record date and payment terms are still to be finalised by the board and will be disclosed in due course.

From founder conviction to balance-sheet strategy, Aggarwal’s move to personally fund his rights issue participation is a clear signal that he’s doubling down on Ola Electric rather than stepping back.
