Beauty Brand MoroMaa Raises Rs 1.5 Crore from AJ VC for a 9% Stake to Build "M Beauty" in India

Mumbai-based beauty, lifestyle and body care brand MoroMaa has raised Rs 1.5 crore from Aviral Bhatnagar of AJ VC in exchange for a 9% equity stake, marking one of the fastest-turnaround fundraises in India's beauty startup space, coming within just a few months of the brand's launch.

Here's the concept MoroMaa is betting on. Founded by Soundous Moufakir and launched on June 27, 2026, the brand is building what it calls "M Beauty," positioning Moroccan beauty as an entirely new category within India's beauty and personal care market. Its products use ingredients sourced directly from Morocco, and the brand is working to introduce Moroccan beauty rituals and traditions to Indian consumers who may be largely unfamiliar with them, leaning heavily on storytelling and content to build that cultural context.

The traction so far is genuinely notable for such a young brand. MoroMaa says two of its products sold out within just the first two months of operations, a strong early signal for a company barely three months old at the time of this raise. Interestingly, this deal reportedly fits AJ VC's standard pre-seed investment pattern, the firm typically writes checks of around Rs 1.5 crore for roughly 9% equity, suggesting this is very much a repeatable, early-conviction bet rather than a one-off.

The founder's background adds an interesting angle. Soundous Moufakir, MoroMaa's solo founder and CEO, previously worked in finance before transitioning into India's entertainment industry, bringing a blend of business discipline and brand storytelling instincts to this beauty venture.

The fresh capital has a clear purpose. MoroMaa plans to expand its product portfolio, strengthen its distribution network, and increase its reach and consumer awareness across India, essentially doubling down on the early momentum before the "M Beauty" concept has time to lose its novelty.

From a June launch to a fresh funding round in September, MoroMaa's rapid trajectory shows just how quickly a genuinely differentiated beauty concept can attract investor attention in India's crowded D2C beauty space.
