Get busy living or get busy dying.

Nov 10, 2023

Recently, a couple of interviews with the surviving member of the infamous duo known as Milli Vanilli popped up on my screen.

The aftermath of their lip synching scandal was vague and I honestly could not recall which one of the members of the group was still around.  Turns out that French born Fab Morvan (full name Fabrice Maxime Sylvain Morvan) was that person and it was German born Rob Pilatus who had passed away in the late 90s.  The charismatic pair was also known as “Rob & Fab.”

When he sat down with Vlad TV, and subsequently Valuetainment, the sentiments expressed by the show hosts were the same.  It was a special interview because of their personal attachments to the time and song.  It was just a nostalgic period for me as well, so I was eager to hear all of the inside details.

The first thing that struck me about Fab Morvan should be obvious.  The man doesn’t appear to have aged a day nor gained a single ounce.  But more importantly, his demeanor and energy.  He came across as a gentleman, honest and full of optimism.  It was quite interesting to hear the well-known events that transpired through his eyes, retrospectively.

Fab ultimately landed into a different phase of life since the notorious Grammy fiasco. Reveling in a brand new chapter that he wished he could have experienced along with his dear friend Rob.  He's come full circle, performing Milli Vanilli’s beloved hits, the way he had hoped for from the start. I do appreciate the fact that he chose to continue living out his dream and not let it fade away.  He’s a father now, raising four beautiful children and showing us all what 57 years young looks like, as you can see!

So, I’m looking forward to watching Mime & Punishment - A study of "Ghost Singers" in the music industry (Full Documentary) available on YouTube, as well as, “Milli Vanilli” now streaming on The Roku Channel or Paramount Plus.

And one more thing.  You know, whenever I come across a tale of perseverance like this, I’m reminded of the critically acclaimed movie, Shawshank Redemption.  Mainly for the most memorable quote in the film regarding the only two real choices we all have in life when you break things down to its very core.  Hence, the title of this post.

Moreover, the literal metaphor narrated by Morgan Freeman’s character, which I’ve always believed is a good visual to help us get through difficult times as needed. Because Fab Morvan “crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side” one way or another.
