My aunt and her grown-ass 40-year-old son, who she babies because she’s a typical Caribbean mother, and my own mom decided to show up at my house for the weekend, and I’m having a fabulous time. Sarcasm.

First, I’m going to rant about how my cousin cannot fathom that I bought my own house. He keeps calling it an apartment and implying I’m actually renting, which has been making my eye twitch. So I’m hiding right now.

But as I was sitting there drinking my coffee, dissociating, and daydreaming about living on a farm all by myself, I could hear my mom, aunt, and cousin chattering in the background. My mom was talking about all the people who have decided to leave the country, aka good ol’ America. Some people left because back in their homelands they had houses, cars, and money set aside to go back to. Other people were just tired of the uncertainty, the chaos, the disillusionment, and decided to dip. And honestly, all is fair and understandable. Leaving makes sense. Staying makes sense.

But my cousin, whose pea brain usually cannot listen to a woman speak for more than two seconds without interrupting, said, “This country is just weird. You get trapped in the mundaneness of it all.” He said a different word, but mundaneness sounds better, so whatever. “You don’t fully like it in a way, but also you just can’t leave. You can’t imagine leaving.”

And that made me pause because… did he just form an actual thought beyond HUNGRY! FOOD! BEER! SLEEPY!? But he’s right. It is fascinating how differently people respond to this country. Some people cannot fathom leaving, and some people pack up boxes, send them back home, and say goodbye mfs. Of course, I’m not talking about people who have unfortunately been detained, deported, or are under other legal processes. I’m talking about the people who are able to leave and also able to stay.

But what does the USA have in its chart that keeps people trapped in the routine? Because my cousin said, “You just go to work and go back home, and go to work and go back home, and sometimes you wash clothes here and there. And that’s how you live. Running from here to here.”

I had to look at the USA chart again and immediately I’m looking at that 6th house in Taurus because the 6th house is work, routine, chores, maintenance, errands, health, labor, and the everyday grind, and Taurus is fixed earth, so it can make the routine feel physical, repetitive, slow, heavy, and hard to move out of. So that is literally “go to work, go home, wash clothes, buy groceries, pay bills, repeat.” It is not always dramatic. Sometimes the trap is just mundaneness. Your body gets trained into the routine (6H) and because it is Taurus, the routine starts feeling like stability even when it is actually just stagnancy.

Taurus is value, time, consistency, money, comfort, and what has already been built. So even when something is not making you happy anymore, Taurus can be like, “Well, I already put too much into this, so now I have to make it mean something.” That is where people get stuck. Not because they love the routine, but because the routine has become familiar enough to feel safe. But anyhoomst, let’s go on, shall we? The USA has Pluto in Capricorn in the 2nd house, which is insane because the 2nd house is money, income, survival, food, possessions, material security, and what we need to feel stable, while Capricorn is systems, hierarchy, authority, responsibility, work, and status. Pluto is control, power, fear, debt, extraction, and survival. So the country’s money house is literally survival (2H) being controlled by systems (Capricorn/Pluto).

But that is also is why people can feel trapped here even when they do not fully like it. It is not just emotional attachment. You are materially TIED UP HERE! Your job, your rent, your mortgage, your credit score, your car, your health insurance, your taxes, your subscriptions, your loans, your debt, your retirement account, your bills, your “five more years and I’ll be good” debt plan that keeps getting extended. Money (2h) is a power structure (pluto).

And then look at that Cancer 8th house with the Sun, Mercury, North Node, Fortune, and Vertex there. Um HELLO? BIG MOMMAAAAA YOUR ARM!!!!!!! The 8th house rules debt, loans, taxes, shared resources, fear, crisis, dependency, survival psychology, inheritance, and other people’s money. Cancer is home, family, homeland, memory, roots, belonging, and emotional security. So the USA’s identity is tied to emotional attachment through 8th house themes. It is giving your home (Cancer) is also your debt, fear, survival story, and burden (8H).

Like you can hate it here and still feel tied to it because your whole life is merged (8H) with it almost on a DNA level, like to your core (Cancer type shit). Your family is here. Your job is here. Your paperwork is here. Your mortgage is here. Your doctors are here. Your kids are here. Your debt is here. Your credit is here. Your memories are here. Your trauma is here. Cancer 8H is not casual because it makes leaving feel like you are not just leaving a place. It feels like you are cutting an umbilical cord (Cancer) attached to all your survival systems (8H), and that is fucking terrifying.

And it also makes me really sad because it reminds me of the horror stories I have heard about people who have gotten deported and either unalived themselves or had severe mental breakdowns. It is devastating because that is not just someone being “sent back.” That is someone having their whole emotional, financial, and survival structure ripped away. That is very Cancer 8H too because the home (Cancer) becomes tied to crisis, loss, and survival fear (8H).

And with Mercury in Cancer in the 8th opposite Pluto in Capricorn in the 2nd, the national mindset is constantly going back and forth between emotional fear and material control. Mercury is thoughts, speech, news, paperwork, narratives, and messaging. Cancer 8H Mercury is spiraling about home and security. Constant thoughts (Mercury) like, “What if we lose everything? What about the family? What about the house? What about our safety? What if we regret this?” (Cancer). And Pluto in Capricorn in the 2H always answers with that Capricorn structure and American dream response of: work HARDER, try HARDER, take out the loan, get the second job, network more, hand out more resumes, climb the ladder. And for a while, under certain circumstances, yes, that worked. But that way of succeeding is getting harder to replicate, even when you try to check off as many boxes as possible.

So people get trapped in this mental loop of survival. Even the idea of leaving becomes loaded because it is not just “do I want to go?” It becomes “what happens to my money, my family, my documents, my home, my future, my security?” Now you are suddenly thinking about your entire family, your bank account, your paperwork, and your nervous system and the comfort of the familiar keeps you tied up (8h) with the land (Cancer).

And then the MC in Virgo conjunct Neptune is so real because Virgo is work, service, health, tasks, fixing, maintenance, improvement, and the everyday details of life. The MC is the public image, reputation, national direction, and what the country is known for. Neptune is illusion, sacrifice, fog, escapism, confusion, and disillusionment. So the public dream of America is basically “keep working, keep improving, keep optimizing, keep sacrificing, and eventually the routine will become freedom.” But for a lot of people, the routine just becomes the cage.

That is why my cousin’s little pea brain accidentally clocked it (not giving him too much credit after him being sassy to me the whole weekend). This country sells movement, freedom, and opportunity, but so many people are just moving from one task to the next without actually feeling free. Running from here to here. Work, home, laundry, bills, groceries, appointments, traffic, repeat. That is Mars in Gemini energy too, because Mars is movement, action, hustle, errands, driving, rushing, and Gemini is doing ten things at once. But Mars square Neptune makes all that movement feel foggy, exhausting, and pointless sometimes. Like you are always doing something, but are you actually getting anywhere? Its like a simulation!!

And then some people can leave because they still have another foundation somewhere else. A house back home, land back home, family back home, money saved back home, a version of themselves that still exists outside the American system.

I think what separates the leavers and the stayers is not just money, even though obviously money matters. It is imagination, detachment, and access, because the people who leave usually have to be able to imagine another life first. That is very 9H/Jupiter/Sagittarius energy in someone’s chart because the 9th house is foreign lands, belief, expansion, and the idea that there is more beyond what you can currently see. I know people get annoyed with cookie-cutter statements about placement but Sag placements love to fucking travel. They’re not that hard to convince. Of course, it has to be combined with other things in someone’s chart for it to become a full relocation.

The stayers are not always staying because they love it (obviously hello have we seen the current state of the..nvm). But anyways, yes they (we as I am here and staying lmfao) stay because of that Cancer/4H/8H/Taurus/Capricorn energy. Your family is here (Cancer/4H), your debt and survival fears are here (8H), your job and money are here (2H/Capricorn), your routine is here (6H/Taurus), and your body has gotten used to the loop even if you are drained.

And I think the people who actually leave usually have some Uranus and Aquarius in their chart going on too because there has to be a willingness to detach from the daily script and it has to be sudden in that way like even bringing up the idea of packing your shit and moving across the world or out your country can seem erratic or jarring (uranus). Uranus is sudden movement and Aquarius has the ability to step back from a group once they dont see a future vision.

But then there is also the real material part. A lot of people who leave have a foundation somewhere else. A house back home, land back home, family back home, money saved, dual citizenship, remote work, retirement, something. That also requires 2H/Taurus/Capricorn in someones chart because leaving is easier when you have something tangible to land on. People love to make it sound like leaving is only about bravery, but sometimes (like 99% of the time hello) bravery is easier when you have a bed waiting for you somewhere else.

So the leaver has imagination and just that thrill at the idea of seeing what's beyond (9H/Jupiter/Sag), detachment (Uranus/Aquarius), and some kind of landing pad to fall on (2H/Taurus/Capricorn). The stayer might have the same desire to leave, but the 8H/Cancer entanglement is too deep. And I just think that Cancer 8H in the USA chart is crazy loud too, because even in smaller examples, you can see the homeland (Cancer) being tied to crisis, fear, and death (8H).

Like my cousins in the Caribbean find school shootings extremely jarring and insane, because to them it is like, yeah, you might get killed by a guy on a motorcycle trying to take your phone, but it is probably not going to happen in school. And that is such a dark thing to even compare, but it shows how different countries carry different fears. In the USA chart, the nation/home/family identity (Cancer) is so merged with crisis, death, debt, and survival fear (8H), and that is part of why people can feel so emotionally tied to it and terrified of it at the same time.

But back to the reasons why people stay, yes, we are merged with this place emotionally, financially, legally, physically, and psychologically. So leaving does not feel like oh yeah just moving! It feels like ripping out roots that grew around history, bills, memories, family, fear, and survival. And also think about the systems in place here that are purposely meant to keep people tied down, like credit scores, health insurance being attached to your job, student loans, mortgages, car payments, tax paperwork, immigration paperwork, retirement accounts, and all the little contracts and obligations that make it hard to just wake up and say bye bitches!

Which I also connect to Pluto in Capricorn in the 2H and Cancer in the 8H in the USA chart, because Pluto in Capricorn in the 2H is literally money, survival, income, and material security (2H) being controlled through systems, debt, hierarchy, and institutions (Pluto/Capricorn). Then Cancer in the 8H makes home, family, belonging, roots, and emotional security (Cancer) tied up with debt, taxes, loans, shared resources, fear, crisis, and dependency (8H).

The USA was structured for people to keep moving, producing, owning, owing, proving, applying, renewing, paying, and surviving. That is why the grind feels so normal here. Pluto in Capricorn in the 2H is literally survival (2H) being organized through control, debt, labor, ownership, and institutions (Pluto/Capricorn).

So yeah, all is fair and understandable. Leaving and also staying makes sense. But the chart does show why America can feel like this weird chore loop with bills attached. It is not that people love it here!!! And yeah, there is nuance too, because I have access to resources and education that I am grateful for, and so on and so forth. But the trap is that the country attaches your survival to routine (6H), your identity to labor (Virgo MC), your home to debt and fear (Cancer 8H), your dreams to productivity (Neptune/MC), and your future to systems that are hard to leave once you are inside them (Pluto in Capricorn 2H).
