We all agree to say that Julian Lage is one of the most influential jazz guitarist today, and for a good reason ! He simply is so connected to his instrument that the music he makes sounds like no other.
Here I share with you a method I got from him years ago during one of his workshop. I didn't know what inversions were back then but the voicings I got from it are so cool that I've been working with it ever since !
This part II is about extending the algorithm to get chords with wider range allowing us to navigate through changes with contrary motion and smooth voice leading !
*This PDF contains - Julian Lage's inversions II*
Part I : Octave displacement
This section explains how JL's algorithms functions mainly using octave displacements and how we can modify some of them to get "secondary inversions"
Part II : Expanding the algorithm
Now we take one more step the algorithm with a useful octave displacement and explore its possibilities.
Part III : Secondary inversion collection
You will find 52 chords inversions over maj6 and V7 qualities to start exploring the infinite world of secondary inversions !
Part IV : Musical context
Start your musical journey with this Etude I wrote with a selection of primary an secondary inversions for you inspiration to kick in ;)
