I create videos for Poetry & Protest, a YouTube channel, that reveals poetry's power to change the world.

I also write books. My first book was Writers and Rebels: The Literature of Insurgency in the Caucasus (2016), which won the University of Southern California Book Prize in Literary and Cultural Studies and the best book of the year award from the Association for Women in Slavic Studies. I am currently working on two books on very different topics: Erasing Palestine (Verso Books, due out in 2023) and Sex & the State: Beyond Marriage and Monogamy (just started so likely to be published in 2023-4, Redwood Press, a trade imprint of Stanford University Press). 

I am also co-editor with Kayvan Tahmasebian of The Routledge Handbook of Translation and Activism (2020). My most recent book is The Persian Prison Poem: Sovereignty and the Political Imagination (Edinburgh University Press). 

I am the author of two poetry collections Beautiful English (Dreich Press, 2021) and Cityscapes (Alien Buddha Press, 2019).
