Hey, I'm Ren.

Twenty-two years in Army aviation, most of it with a wrench in my hand. Black Hawks and Chinooks, later King Airs and Dash 7s. I retired out of that and now work as a Technical Inspector in South Korea, still holding airworthiness authority over a bunch of flying machines. The short version: I decide whether an aircraft is safe before anyone climbs in. No pressure.

I write on the side. Always have.

Quiet Roads is my Substack. Memoir and observation, mostly about the parts of a long career that never made it into a logbook or an award citation. Slow roads. Odd jobs. What thirty-odd years of working does to a person, which I'm still working out.

Two book projects are going, including a science fiction novel about people trying to stay decent when the world around them isn't.

I also run CurbsideBikes on X, where I write about the motorcycle industry: why manufacturers build what they build, and which heritage claims are real versus marketing. Less romance than you'd expect. More argument. And opinion.
