The Quebec nationalist movement at the moment is so god damn historically revisionist and settler colonial, these people literally pretend to be complete victims and deny any and all indigenous struggle. As if the french occupation was particularly kind or a different framework from the british occupation. Both are settler-colonialism. The 'british oppression of the québécois' pre-capitalism was a case of power struggles between two colonial powers. The french catholic church spent all those years kidnapping indigenous children from their families, sending them to residential schools to be brainwashed by christian evangelism; assimilated if they weren't straight up killed. The 'anglophone exploitation of the québécois' is a case of an anglo national bourgeoisie exploiting workers and shitting on our national identity to make a quick dime. Cheap labour for them. Of course the bourgeoisie of the Dominion of Kkkanada wasn't kind to a working class they used as cheap labour. But playing the victims as settler colonizers is actually insane when you look at what Michel Jean wrote in Kukum (2019): French AND British corporations clear-cutting the Nitassinan (our land in innu-aimun, referring to pretty much everything north of the québec metropolitan area nowadays), employing québécois draveurs, and flooding the whole area, separating families in the process, killing entire animal populations that the natives relied on, disrupting Portage lines, the list goes on. Furthermore, this "british oppression we're facing" that nationalists like Paul St-Pierre Plamondon talk about is a casse of reactionary bourgeois chauvinism by the english bourgeoisie on a personnal level ridiculing our heritage, and a "threat of an immigrant invasion" (really subtle here man, hitler particles everywhere). We absolutely can and should stand together in a common struggle against the bourgeoisie WHILE fighting against the reactionary chauvinist positions that these people hold. We have been benefiting from the exploitation of this land for close to 500 years now (1541). The time for decolonization is well past its necessity and we absolutely need to be accomplices to indigenous struggle. To organize to destroy the bourgeois state, help the cultural revival of your local indigenous comrades, of their languages, arts, modes of governance. Here's something written by Cherokee comrade Giogae Jisqwa which I found insightful: "What is landback? Landback is the fight for each native nation to have its land and have the right of self-determination. The goal once a nation is established is decolonization. What is decolonization? It is the process of removing harmful settler structures (ex religious institutions English name ect) and relations; the goal of decolonization is to remove the contradictions of the native states and The Settler state What are these contradictions? The native nations want their land back. The settler state does not want this, for it weakens the settler state. The native neo-colonies want to be economically independent. The settler state can not have this, for the settler state would have less power. The ability to decide who can become a citizen. The settler state cannot have this, for that ensures the survival of the natives, and they would lose a worker from THEIR factory to another. All of this falls under self-determination which requires landback. The settler state would never allow this How do we remove these contradictions? The removal of the settler state. What happens to the settlers? They stay in whatever nation is in that area for example Tennessee would be Cherokee land the American workers would stay there and would have equal say in the nation but their privileges are removed. The only way to achieve this is socialism. What replaces the USA? A union of all nations that still exist Cherokee chicksaw navojo so on. What can I do? Join the American party of labor or red youth rising, set up a chapter or division in your area organizing is the only way to fight back. Written by giogae jisqwa for ARES" Another interesting read from the same person in a response to the reactionary social-chauvinist ACP on landback: "There is a misunderstanding by our nationalist "friend." A vast majority of reservations are state capitalist, which means the bourgeois state controls the markets in large part or in full part. The state is (at least for the EBOCI) controlled by the tribal council, whose members are controlled by the USA through funding by the BIA. So our land is already nationalized. Our nationalist "friend" either has not investigated and thus doesn't have the right to speak, or he has investigated but is incapable of imagining that the indigenous nations are capable of socialism because he does not view them as nations, so they can't have an economic system. “I understand that slogans about ‘land back’ have started to be advanced in the USA, with the reference ‘back’ referring to the descendants of the indigenous or aboriginal peoples of the United States.“ This is a misunderstanding; it's giving the nations that still exist their land back. You may ask, "Would that destroy the USA?" You are correct. The settler state will be destroyed and the distinction between settler and native will be aswell. You may ask, "Isn't this extreme?" Let us quote Lenin. “The whole task of the proletarians in the national question is “unpractical” from the standpoint of the nationalist bourgeoisie of every nation, because the proletarins, opposed as they are to nationalism of every kind, demand “abstract” equality; they demand, as a matter of principle, that there should be no privileges, however slight.” - Lenin, The Right of Nations to Self-Determination, ch. 4 So, to keep the settler state, there will always be a privilege to the settlers, the privilege of deciding what will happen on stolen land. So what is landback? It is giving land back to the indigenous nations; however, inside these nations there is the settler proletariat and the native (whatever nation—for example, people in north Alabama would be in the ᎠᏂᏴᏫᏯ nation). These proletariat have equal political power and control of the land. We mean the destruction of distinctions between settlers and natives, which will continue to exist if these nations are kept as subjects and not equals. “Existing family farms are transferred into the collective ownership of some collective body representing descendants of an indigenous group. This group then charges land rent on the farms and appropriates surplus labor from the farmers. Existing farms owned by large agribusinesses are transferred to indigenous collective ownership. In this case the indigenous collective shares in some of the surplus value that the agribusiness extracts from its wage laborers. Oil rents are transferred to an indigenous collective. In this case the surplus is extracted from all purchasers of petroleum products who pay more for oil than the average labor cost of producing it.The indigenous group acquires ownership of all land in a metropolis and can thus charge house rents on all residences in the city. In that case the indigenous group is exploiting all urban tenants.” No, indigenous proletariat want the negation of the distinction between settler and native, which needs the destruction of the settler state. More so, the principle of self-determination is applied to all these nations, not just mine, which is what you do; you make the same mistake as Luxembourg of only your nation gets this right. You cannot conceive of indigenous socialism because first you must view their nations as real and unique from your own and second oppressed by yours. You believe in socialism with American characteristics; this is incompatible with landback(same with socalsim with ᎠᏂᏴᏫᏯᎢ characteristics this is also incompatible with landback because this does not help destroy the distinction of settler and native) , which is why you cannot conceive it. Lastly, to my dear nationalist "friend," for you and your “party” to show they are not chauvinists and cowards, Make a line about indigenous nations and what you plan to do with them because not having a line shows that your “party” is not international and has a plan to exploit our nations for all you can plunder from us. your dear friend. -ᏕᎧᏃᎩᎠ ᎩᎦᎨ ᏥᏍᏆ (singing red bird) from ARES" Long live Marxism-Leninism, long live the emancipation of the masses, long live the indigenous struggle for liberation!
