・Gekimation

I remember that we decided to make episode 19, "Gekimation," look like a school festival because it was a story about a school festival and we couldn't make it in time if we made it in the usual way due to the schedule and we couldn't do any more compilations.

Aside from that, while I was away, the film crew was burning the materials that had already been filmed, like a campfire at a school festival, and they were filming to use them for the ending.

That made me angry.

I said, "You don't want someone else to burn something you like and support."

I myself am a great fan of anime, so to ruin something that I have been watching with such emotion by saying, "This is a fake," could be acceptable in the case of "Evangelion" if it was Anno's idea, but not for a work that has an original story.

In the end, we didn't have time to make anything else, so we used the reverse footage.

I still regret that it should have been a pitch black screen or some kind of still picture.

In a way, it was an event that made me realize the meaning of my position as a producer.

Imaishi's original episode 24 was also in progress while we were working on episode 19, but it eventually got called off.

His eccentricity and fun in creating the screen were later greatly appreciated in "FLCL" later.

However, no one followed his line in Japanese animation, and the number of animations that drew clean and beautiful pictures increased....

Coincidentally, it was accepted in the American market through "FLCL". It is interesting that Imaishi's that kind of drawing style has come to be recognized and appreciated as one of the Japanese animation styles in foreign countries.

・Suffering from pressure

I was a kid in front of the gate* and had been involved in the animation field even before "Eva".

But when I started working on it, it was all new to me.

Pressure... Rather, stress was piling up in my mind.

I was angry and then regretted it all the time.

I was so confused every day, too many things were happening. I don't even remember many of them anymore (laughs). The only thing I remember is that Hiramatsu (Tadashi), who always had a calm heart, often encouraged me to reflect on my situation.

He lent me a CD of "Sibelius" to relieve my stress.

Needless to say, it was because of Hiramatsu that Anno launched this project. He was not only the leader of the drawing team, but he also set the mood for the work, and was like a reliable father for the staff in the studio.

... However, the reason I still want to stay in this industry, no matter how imperfect I may be, is because of that one year of "Kare Kano".

I am truly grateful to Anno for giving me the chance.

Thank you again.
