Today while playing around on my organ console, a gentle melody suddenly appeared under my right hand. Almost without thinking, my left hand and feet joined in — and before I knew it, a little piece was born. Out of this spontaneous moment grew Cantilena Notturno: a lyrical miniature for pipe organ, with a simple flowing theme and a contrasting accompaniment.
The piece is short and flexible:
• as a miniature (just under 2 minutes)
• or, with the repeat and a slight change of registration, as a complete piece (just over 3 minutes).
