How To Create A Standout Title For Your Listings

Jan 16, 2022

If you're new to the reselling game, creating a listing title can be a real headache. The platforms I sell on (Poshmark, eBay & Facebook Marketplace) all give 80+ character count options. Most often I see new resellers title their items as something along the lines of "Columbia snow boots size 11". This isn't a bad title; however, there is definitely room for improvement.

The first few keywords are most important as these are the words that the buyer sees right off the bat. I like to title my items with the brand first followed by style/model and then other keywords the buyer might be searching for. Let's take the "Columbia snow boots size 11" for example. Columbia is the brand which should typically always be the first word in a listing (there are exceptions to this but let's start with the basics). Next, I like to type the style/model name if there is one. Checkout "How To Search For The Exact Style Name Of A Shoe" for more information on how to do this! In this example, the style of the boot is "Ice Maiden II". So far we have "Columbia Ice Maiden II" as our listing title. Not bad! Let's move onto the middle part of the listing title.

The middle part of the listing title is very important as this is where you want to utilize specific keywords related to the item. In this pair, there is a "200 grams" imprinted on both sides of the boot. This is a specific detail that potential buyers are looking for and should definitely be added to the listing title. Also imprinted on a lot of winter boots is the word "waterproof" or "water resistant". Again, another specific detail a potential buyer could be searching for. Let's put it all together now "Columbia Ice Maiden II 200 Grams Waterproof". Sounds a heck of a lot better than our original title! Lastly, let's talk about the ending of a title.

Once you have the beginning and middle part of your listing title, the ending should be words that still relate to your item, but are just a bit more general (these are still important keywords!) We have our title "Columbia Ice Maiden II 200 Grams Waterproof"...okay, but waterproof what? Waterproof BOOTS! Okay great - but what kind of waterproof boots? Are they combat boots? Ankle booties? Snow boots? Over the knee boots? Rain boots? I think you get the point here. Again, we are looking for keywords that relate to our item. These are waterproof winter snow boots. We now have "Columbia Ice Maiden II 200 Grams Waterproof Winter Snow Boots". At this point we are almost completely out of characters to use, yay! I would recommend ending the last few characters with the gender and size. If you have the room - gender, size and lastly color. "Columbia Ice Maiden II 200 Grams Waterproof Winter Snow Boots Womens 10 Gray".

That's it! Now your listing will show up to many potential buyers that are looking for "200 gram boots" or "winter snow boots" or "waterproof 200 gram boots". When you do not have these kinds of keywords in your title, your listing may not even appear under a buyers search results even though you have the exact boot they might be looking for.

Congratulations - you've completed your course on creating a standout title! Now go out there and create some bad a** listings!
