I'm Rick Horowitz — criminal defense attorney, constitutional issues writer, and budding market analyst based in Fresno, California.

I publish three Substacks: Probable Cause Media, where I write about criminal defense, constitutional issues (not limited to law always), and the justice system from the inside, and Reading the Tape, where I apply a trader's eye and a philosopher's skepticism to markets, macro, and the stories people tell themselves. It's called Reading the Tape because learning to read the tape for markets opened my eyes to the idea that we're all always "reading the tape" on life. So my writing isn't at all limited to markets, but does contain a reliance on pattern recognition concepts.

And I just started a new one August 1, 2026 to talk about "whatever". It's called Coffee and a Corndog.

Twenty-five years in courtrooms. A philosophy degree. A technology background. A trading journal. These things turn out to be related.
