A Little Grace, Please

A Little Grace, Please

Aug 24, 2026

Here’s a little insight into me—and why things can sometimes get a little spotty around here.

I have an autoimmune disorder, and unfortunately, it has a truly impressive talent for flaring up at the most inconvenient times possible. Because apparently my body looked at my to-do list and said, “Absolutely not.”

Now, now. I know some people might be thinking that sounds like a lame excuse. That maybe I’m just lazy or not trying hard enough.

But when I have a flare-up, I genuinely don't function normally.

And honestly? You probably wouldn't want me trying to write through one.

My characters wouldn't be the same. My plotlines would be riddled with holes for you all to lovingly—or ruthlessly—pick apart later. My brain simply isn't operating at its usual capacity, and trying to force creativity out of it during those moments doesn't do me or my stories any favors.

More importantly, though, I've learned something the hard way: resting early matters.

If I take the two to five days I need to rest when a flare-up begins, there's a much better chance of getting through it without it taking over my entire life. If I try to push through and pretend everything is fine?

Those flare-ups can last weeks or even months.

So, when I ask for patience and a little grace, that's why.

If I ever disappear without warning, there's usually a reason. It may be health-related, or it may be because something else has gone spectacularly wrong in my life. Because apparently chaos likes to make appointments without checking my calendar first.

I love writing. I love sharing this journey with all of you. And I want to be consistent. But I've also reached a point where I'm learning that taking care of myself has to come first sometimes—and I'm trying to be better about accepting that without drowning in guilt.

With all of that being said, I’m still hoping to get the next Behind Closed Pages installment up today or tomorrow! This one is all about character development and the slightly unhinged way I get to know the people living inside my head.

And if it goes well, I might even let you all build a character with me for a future story.

No pressure. No promises that we won't accidentally create an emotionally damaged menace.

But that's half the fun, right?

Thank you for being here. Thank you for your patience. And thank you for giving me the space to be human while I figure out this whole author thing.

Stay spooky. Stay safe. Stay healthy. 🖤
