creating a Wise and Compassionate Youth Culture
Vision Profile: Ram
“Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames” - Rumi
Thank you for considering having a look into my vision profile that I am really passionate about and truly believe in. This gesture of yours’ means a lot to me, as without people like you, I wouldn't have been here from where I was.
I believe everything happens for a reason. The fact that you are reading this now, has its own reasons.
THIS IS WHAT I DO:
A childhood without fear; A generation of children/youth whose aspirations and actions in life deeply root from wisdom and compassion for themselves and others; revolutionizing the way an individual spends the first 30 years of his/her life; creating opportunities for children to create a meaningful life for themselves rather than preparing them for a job; facilitators of wellbeing of children instead of teachers of subjects…Really!? Is this all possible?. I say, YES!!! I take this moment to cordially invite you to be a part of this journey. YOU and ME- Let’s make this happen!
I mainly do volunteer work by collaborating with individuals, institutions, social groups, non- profit organizations, government and private stakeholders that are working in the area of learning & education, communications & media, art & culture, economics and business, peacebuilding and relations, justice and governance, health and wellness, infrastructure and resources, science and technology, spirituality and religion, micro communities, indigenous cultures etc., through bottom-up innovative experiential learning opportunities with a vision to create a wise and compassionate youth culture, to directly impact millions of children and youth all around the world.
This visionary project is aimed at more empowerment culturally, about the mind and its workings - The end solution to every other problem in the world. As someone who faced trauma and had a struggling childhood, It took me a long to find my own ways to come up with solutions and ideas of sort to have a better sense of self Identity only to realize that if I had a better exposure and a good nurturing at the growth stages of life I could have saved years of struggling to find peace and happiness. Was also able to realize the lack of proper emotional education on the heart/mind is lacking in the system. From personal experience I was able to experience the impact myself due to the empowerment and education of mind. As someone who has faced and overcome those struggles, I have a feeling that if I don't do it no one will ever do. That intention makes me the one to make this vision a reality.
...and WHY?
Chapter 4: A Wise and Compassionate Youth Culture.
The conventional system of learning that happens in the beginning years is only teaching children to be the best in academics and push them into the rat race as soon as they are out of schools or colleges. As a society we have achieved substantial growth in education, but quality of outcome is something that needs to be questioned. Children deserve better than that. I believe giving an opportunity to inquire and understand in depth things which matters like wisdom and compassion can make an immediate difference and it will result in a more caring, more understanding and more friendly community development.
My vision is to develop a wise and compassionate youth culture by facilitating learning for children/ adults between ages 0-30 through tools like self-enquiry, reflective practices and experiential learning. To empower and educate them on heart and mind through collaboration with different sectors of society. The main focus is to equip them with new ways of thinking to have a well-developed identity of SELF. To create a culture of youth who are kind, wise and compassionate beings, not only to others but also to themselves. To give opportunity and exposure to change the way children experience the world, transform the way they think, act, relate and find meaning. As the main focus of this project is on the “mind”, where everything that we say and do roots from, by tackling the issue in the root i.e., working on the mind itself can be the best social change we can make to have a more beautiful and just world. Everything begins with the mind. The deep impact of this project will be the creation of better minds. This is what I envision.
As far as my understanding goes, creating a culture is not a linear process. As we are trying to build a culture, what we are dealing with is a multifaceted, complex, dynamic and living subject. As the project/vision itself is an aspect of a non-physical phenomenon i.e., mind. This theme of non-physicality expresses its various facets in every level of implementation, say through missions, goals, milestones, various initiatives and innovative projects. The conceptualisation of ideas and implementation of this project is not something conventional and not a linear process due to the nature of this vision. This unique and dynamic process of carrying out implementation involves a simultaneous approach and will be working on so many things at different levels to reach the conducive culture we aim for. Absence of one or uncertainty of another won’t stop this project. The fluidity of design of the project will ensure that it always aspires to reach the vision as it uses the obstacles and disruption as an opportunity and a driving force. Through the innovative experiential learning initiatives the general public is also impacted indirectly. My vision is to implement this globally and add value for children and youth around the world.
As we are planting seeds of wisdom and compassion in children we are raising a community of kind, wise and compassionate individuals. A generation of children/youth whose aspirations and actions in life deeply root from wisdom and compassion for themselves and others. A healthy, well developed and balanced sense of SELF will be the end result, which lasts life long.
These are my current sub projects to meet the main vision,
- •Transforming Villages Wisely Through Youth-Led Innovations and Social Actions•
- •Project Inception•: Facilitating the discovery of what leads to a meaningful life.
- •Review, Refine, Renew!•: Guidance on setting bottom-up systems framework for organizations/ individuals to achieve their vision. Building a structure that creates capacity for action and bringing life into structure.
- •9BoxUnion•: 9BoxUnion is A Solid Manual for Life. It is structured as a 3 Months Retreat on ‘Eternal Definitive Principles’. Eternal definitive principles refer to fundamental, unchanging, and universal truths that govern various aspects of existence, including the natural world, human nature, and spiritual realms.
Had an opportunity to enroll in an international teacher training course based on Buddhist world view and Waldorf pedagogy, on scholarship to get trained as a Transformative Experiential Educator.
Chapter 3: Finding Something Bigger Than Me.
I learned so much in the 7 years after I left home by exposing myself to the outer world, which helped me become a wholesome being than the education inside the four walls I got for around 20 years which was not much of a help in any sense. I realized the complete lack of emotional, social and value based education in our system during the critical age of a human being. I was able to notice that knowledge must be gained through personal experience and I discovered the results for myself during the journey to see and understand the world. It was an eye opening experience. Helping people realize their true nature and their potential became a passion for me. This idea is one such passion to reach the bigger vision I have for my life.
Even during studying many lessons through my journeys, books, meeting people and while leading an emotionally healthy life, I found myself sometimes struggling with unexplainable fear which I can only count as what I had carried from childhood. No child deserves this kind of a life. People will have differences and we will continue to have disrupted families for quite a long time. There will be many children who will have to suffer because their parents are unable to provide the love and intimacy a child needs to grow up to be a healthy person. These children deserve an opportunity to feel loved and to develop qualities which others with a healthy family will acquire automatically.
Chapter 2: In Search of...
As the antidepressants were not helping, I stopped taking them. It occurred to me that the situation and people I’m surrounded myself with are the main reason for my state of being. So I left home, decided to start my life from scratch, to gain more diverse experience, to start thinking for myself and live life the way I want. I decided to put myself in situations that I was not comfortable with and to learn from the struggles I face. I did so many odd jobs(daily wage jobs (painting/construction works), worked as waiter in hotel, part time marketing for a telecom company, personal assistant for a tutor, took one-on-one tuition, event management for fundraising events/weddings, got trained in teaching children soft skills through drama/creative acting, mentoring people with intellectual disability, personal and executive assistant to a person with cerebral palsy) to feed myself. I learned lessons from every problem I faced. It wasn’t smooth and the internal struggle was real. In between with the money I saved and with help from a few others, I traveled solo to places I never would've been without embracing the fear. As they say, real education doesn't happen inside the four walls, I was on a journey to educate my deeper self, discover myself, to realize the unknown. What’s life?...Why are we here?...Do I matter here on earth as an individual?. What is the purpose?, etc. I questioned everything around me, read as many books as I could get my hands on, volunteered vigorously with the palliative care sector(death and dying) and disability sector(spinal cord injury and intellectual disability), Worked with village development organizations by initiating projects for transforming /training online and in person, where I was able to learn more about myself. Through all these I learned to take care of myself emotionally, physically and spiritually well. During my travels I found myself in a monastery wanting to become a monk. After coming back, I started giving more importance to diverse experiences instead of materialistic possessions and cravings. My approach to what we call a life has changed since then. All together I am leading a simple, basic, nomadic life. Decided to live a practically compassionate life, to be useful to others and assign meaning to what we call life.
Chapter 1: Yup! That happened.
I was born into a dysfunctional family. Emotional trauma was a recurring theme due to fights between parents. Never had a loving or emotionally fulfilling moment with both my parents. They were physically present, but emotionally absent for me. I was often left alone when they were focused on their own problems with each other. So I grew up as a lonely child with hardly any support from the family. When I got out into the real world I had difficulty in socializing. I didn't even know how to talk to someone. I had a great deal of trouble coping up with emotional shortcomings and because of that never had a real connection with anybody. All I remember from my childhood was throwing up destructive emotions like anger, jealousy, pride, and unworthy feelings in an uncontrollable way. Later, they became my learned behaviors to deal with situations in the outside world. I felt unworthy of living because of my inability to deal with the world. I never had anybody to lean on. I could not trust anyone enough to depend on them. It was a solo struggle. It affected my studies also. I hated myself and wanted to escape from the situation somehow. So, I attempted suicide and was in ICCU for 4 days. Like in everything else, I failed in dying also. I was on antidepressants for a year after this incident. It did not help me, it only made me numb.
