As of today, the H & HV mtDNA project has 15,529 members. Of those, 14,750 have mtDNA test results with 10,394 mtDNA full sequence results.

For me as an author and project administrator, a key difference is that at this time this site is not actively harvesting content for AI training models. Then the site is free for me to post on, so I have no need to add affiliate links or anything else that might bias my opinions.
DNA Sale
Through the 30th, Family Tree DNA is having a sale on both new DNA test kits and upgrades. For project members, I highly recommend upgrading to the mtDNA full sequence if you have not already done so and testing cousins with caveats.
If you have already tested yourself, there is very little to be gained from testing the mtDNA of your. children or your siblings. Because mtDNA changes so slowly, I also do not encourage testing of maternal line first cousins. At the second cousin level though things become more interesting. This is not only because there is a small chance of variation between you and your cousin but also because the potential to find a misattributed maternal ancestor begins to increase at this point. At the third cousin the more distant levels I highly recommend testing multiple people.
But... Times are difficult and many of us are facing hardship, so if you cannot afford to do any additional DNA testing right now that is entirely understandable. Please do not feel pressured to spend money you do not have.
