Selling a house can go from “We accepted an offer!” to “Why is everybody acting weird?” pretty quickly. A signed purchase contract does not put closing on autopilot.
Three red flags deserve attention:
1. The buyer keeps changing the deal.
One request becomes three. Now you’re renegotiating things you thought were settled. New information can justify changes, but repeated demands deserve clear explanations. You do not have to say yes to everything.
2. Deadlines keep slipping.
Late paperwork. Financing delays. Another extension. One hiccup happens. A pattern needs answers: What’s delayed? Why? What’s the next deadline?
3. Every solution creates another problem.
Legitimate inspection concerns matter. But when every response brings another demand, pay attention. A loose doorknob should not require a congressional hearing.
These signs do not prove the buyer wants out. They mean it’s time to review the facts, contract, and options with your real estate agent.
Realty Goddess Reality Check: A shaky deal isn’t always a dead deal. But keeping it together shouldn’t mean giving away the store.
