I have started this fundraiser to raise money to place memorial benches both in his hometown and my own town 6 hours away.
Fundraiser Description:
Bob Rich, my father, passed away at age 69 on July 13th, 2024 from an unknown cause. It was incredibly sudden, unexpected, and unfortunate; words can’t really convey how much he is missed right now, by myself, his friends, and his family.
Bob was an avid nature-lover and amazing photographer. Most days you could catch him out on an adventure at a reservoir or lake in Lassen County, diligently taking photos of the wildlife and foliage, with his late dog Kaia in tow. He was fascinated with birds and was my go-to person any time I saw a bird I wanted identified. Even with extremely progressed macular generation, he could still get some of the most stunning pictures I’ve ever seen!
There was no place he enjoyed being more than outside, be it biking, walking, or just listening to the wind in the trees. In honor of this, I am raising money for a memorial bench to be placed in his name in Susanville, CA at an overlook we often walked (ironically, the same spot where he needed to take a break last time but had no where to sit). If enough money is raised, I am going to place a secondary memorial bench in Humboldt County so that I can go sit with him as often as I like. If possible, I am going to have a doggie-bag dispenser attached to the benches to encourage people to not only pick up after their dogs, but also pick up trash they find along their walk – Bob loathed “litterbugs!” I am also using a portion of the proceeds to purchase wildflower seed packets to share in my local community.
Any leftover or extra funds raised will go to covering the debt I’ve accrued from unexpected travel expenses and several weeks off work to handle everything that comes with an unforeseen death, from bureaucratic responsibilities to cleaning out his apartment.
