The Dragon Boat Festival, actually a day of remembrance, typically falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar, commemorating Qu Yuan's suicide by drowning.

Qu Yuan was a poet and statesman of the Chu state at that time, who took his own life due to dissatisfaction with the corrupt government. So, in addition to giving future generations a holiday, the Dragon Boat Festival can also be a day to focus on mental health. 💛

Why do we eat zongzi? It's because the people of Chu couldn't bear to see fish in the river consuming Qu Yuan's body, so they threw zongzi into the river, hoping the fish would eat zongzi instead to keep Qu Yuan's body intact. This event reflects the respect the people had for Qu Yuan back then. 😌

However, we should not casually throw zongzi into the sea 😁. While throwing zongzi is a minor issue, if we carelessly dispose of single-use batteries and they end up in the ocean, the electrolytes containing heavy metals like lead, cadmium, mercury, etc., will directly impact marine ecology and indirectly affect long-term human health, and even more so, the global marine ecosystem! 😱

Promoting a program to recycle single-use batteries is something that involves you, me, and everyone. Let's start in Hong Kong and work together to lead society towards greater civility, ecological care, and strive for the well-being of all global humanity!
