The Mundane

The Mundane

Mar 30, 2023

The move to Yellowstone isn't far into the future and, as one can imagine, that means preparations are things that take us away from seeking new things and going interesting places. We will still make time to cross a few more things off the Big Bend region list including playing the last disc golf course in the area and a few other things.

Today means replacing the wastegate solenoid in the truck which caused a check engine light to come on when we were in transit Alpine...and also caused me to nearly lose my mind being a thousand miles away from what I know and having a potential issue. I can speak directly to the fact that when you're towing ten thousand pounds of house and you get a check engine light, your heart and mind are not in a happy place.

There's also the generator that has a propane leak which means we've never used it and we will probably have to count on it for at least part of our trip north. Normally this wouldn't be too much of an issue except for the fact the there is about six inches of clearance in the cubby that holds it and that's just not a lot of room to work. I've been putzing around with it for about two years and am now forced to get it done because of needs.

I'm also about to install set of helper bags on the truck so that the rear suspension isn't under so much strain. The 2004 Chevy 2500HD is right at it's towing capacity only because of the stock suspension, and I might just be paranoid here, but I could almost sweat the leaf springs are flattening out from the 4,000 miles or so that we've towed so far. It's worth noting that the truck is the crux of this whole operation and if we dump money into anything, it has to be the truck.

There are a few other things that need to be handled but I won't bore my kind readers with the intimate details. However, I will say that Free Range Adventure Dog is doing well and decided wlast night was the time to be extra cute. I think she was angling for more snacks.

Have a great day!
