Who's in Your Circle?

Who's in Your Circle?

Oct 02, 2024

You have most likely heard that you are the average of the five people you associate with the most. The people you surround yourself with matter. It is important to be intentional about who is in your "Circle of Influence."

How do you start to bring intention to your circle?

Here is an exercise that can clarify who is in your circle and help you become aware of your control in this area of life.

Grab a piece of paper and draw a circle. Above the circle, draw three blank lines. Through the center of the circle, draw three blank lines. Below the circle, draw three blank lines. Pick an area of life to focus on for this exercise (e.g., finances, fitness/nutrition, etc.).

Keep the area of life you have chosen in mind. Who are two to three people guiding you? These are people in your life who serve as models for you or who are helping you create a desired outcome. Fill in their names on the lines above the circle.

Next, who are two to three people running with you on your journey? They are often peers who are on a similar mission as you. They can be people you are talking to regularly who are having similar experiences as you. Write their names on the lines through the center of the circle.

Finally, who are two to three people you are guiding? They are people you are helping along on their journey. Write their names on the lines below the circle.

When you have defined who is in each level, you have:

  • People pulling you forward.

  • People alongside you as you create your desired outcome.

  • People counting on you to help them move forward.

Take some time to decide who is in your circle. If you are excited about who is in your circle, great! If your circle could use some work, realize you control who you allow into your circle.

Try this exercise with a few areas of your life and see what comes up!
