Aretha Astin kills for the American System. Worse, she kills her own kind, the paranormal superhuman, declared its own race in 1884 and subject to deportation to parts unknown...or execution. The Guild Of Honor, the society of masked heroes who once studied this phenomenon and defended the world learned this hard way.
But now a gruesome murder will be revealed and the System will drag out one of the survivors of the old days to solve it. Flag Banner Epsom, disabled professor, battered, cranky, foul, ally to the fallen who can see your past with a single stare. Together, Epsom and Astin will have to chase down a fiend who thrives on chaos and fear and, in the process, find the strength and perspicacity to fight the System.
