Do you know about Mamas In Music? If you don’t, neither did I. I’ve met with the founders of Mamas in Music from America and the UK and working with them to bring this amazing group to Australian shores.
Over the past generations women have had to fight to be in the music industry and still fight for a space and to be treated and paid equally in the industry, however for women who are mothers (and anyone who is also a care giver) being in the industry has not only been harder to do but also been harshly judged and shamed.
Mamas In Music are working towards helping the creative industries specifically in music and film have accessibility to all care givers and Mamas in music to support obstacles unique to their situation and provide more opportunities. When in Sydney this week I went to an amazing Women In Music talk where one of the solutions to sexual abuse and mistreatment of women in the industry was floated at having more not just women but mothers in positions of leadership to promote a safe and protected industry for now and the future. I personally like this idea and being a mum with three little ones watching me in life, I would love to work in the industry without having to feel shamed or judged for who I am and what I do in life.
