When Loretta took Mount Juliet

When Loretta took Mount Juliet

Jul 22, 2026

So lets get right into a music legend... you may have heard of her?

Loretta Lynn spoke about the clothes her best friend and mentor, fellow country singer Patsy Cline, gave her before her untimely death, including her famous long gowns. As Lynn’s star began to rise, Cline also gave her advice on how to walk in high heels, wear makeup, and how to fix her hair.

For today's spotlight song, we are happy to broadcast a 1967 gem “If You’re Not Gone Too Long”. This is one of Loretta Lynn’s classic honky‑tonk singles. Produced by Owen Bradley, recorded at the legendary Bradley’s Barn, that's in Mount Juliet, Tennessee btw, and later chosen by Reba McEntire as her favorite Loretta Lynn song.

The single reached #7 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1967, cementing her run of hits during the 1960s. This single is from the album Singin’ with Feelin’, which itself peaked at #3 on the Billboard Country Albums chart.

This song flips the usual heartbreak narrative. Instead of begging someone not to leave, Loretta warns that if they do leave, they’d better not stay gone too long... a confident, assertive twist that fits her early persona perfectly.

I currently have this record on RadioUnited play-list rotation. Stop by when time permits. You know what? Every man, woman, and child should hear a little music every day 🎶 so the cares of the world don’t obliterate the beautiful in the human soul. I used to sing in my 6th grade choir class... for that moment in time, I was so happy it was there. 😊
