What does it mean to Buy QDC a Coffee?

Jun 01, 2021

Welcome to QDC's Buy Me A Coffee, our new donation platform. We're soft-launching in June 2021 with one-time donations, and plan to have monthly subscription options open shortly after!

Why are we opening up donations?

Queer Design Club is a community with over 2,000 members - we have a directory website, a Zoom account for hosting events, Airtable and Zapier integrations to update the website directory, and plans for major projects like the Queer Design Count, which requires paying for survey software, a data analyst, a report designer, advertising, and more. All of this adds up real quick!

We funded this year's Queer Design Count with the help of multiple corporate sponsors, but we still have other base operational costs. Donations to this platform will help support our community and let us provide programming, resources, and other opportunities for queer designers and creatives.

Who's deciding where this money goes?

QDC has a leadership board led by Rebecca Brooker, co-founder of Queer Design Club. The leadership board is fully volunteer-based and made up of members from the community.

Community Membership - Director, Zae Soe & Associate, Stephanie Cruz
Community Programming - Director, Cal Ullinger & Associate, Shanny Pothier
Content and Strategy - Director, Kyle Picone & Associate, Logan Beck
Design and Social Media - Director, Leandro Fernandez & Associate, Rushing Haise
Finance and Sponsorships - Director: Justin Kwong
Professional Development - Director: Zach Deocadiz
PR and Communications - Director: Chan Baer

The leadership board meets biweekly to discuss ongoing projects and develop plans for the future. Donation funds will be allocated according to project need and all of it goes directly towards community efforts. Board members don't make any money from this!

Is there any reward for donating?

If you're in our Slack, you may have seen the Community Survey that went out! Folks had really great suggestions, and we got a lot of useful info. One of the major concerns is that resources for the community should not be paywalled behind donations - and we agree.

To that end, we're still developing donation rewards (think early access or previews of projects in development, digital rewards like fonts or stock packs, and coupon codes to QDC member stores), but what we can say is some rewards will be released to anyone who has ever donated, so you may get a fun surprise in the future!
