Summer 2021 Update

Summer 2021 Update

Aug 17, 2021

Thank you all so much for your generous support! We’ve already reached 77% of our goal in just a few months and we’ve been putting that funding to good use. Your support allows us to hire and pay queer people for their talents, as well as pay for logistics and admin costs. Here's your Summer 2021 update on how things are going:

EVENTS:

Pride Month brought us 4 weeks of community events, ranging from a Queer Typography talk by Paul Soulellis to our multi-timezone Pride Dance Party which featured live acts by queer performers. All speakers and performers for our events are paid an honorarium for their time.

Our new speaker series will begin later this month, and we have speakers planned through the Fall, including Leslie Xia, Jillian Adel, and Raquel Breternitz. Dates and topics will be announced on our social media.

Interested in speaking? (No experience required.) Let us know!

QUEER DESIGN COUNT:

The deadline to fill out the Queer Design Count has been extended till August 31st! If you haven’t already, please fill out the survey.

We’ve begun the search to hire a data analyst (Know anyone for the job? Send them our way!) to help analyze the results of the Count, and we’ve hired a creative developer and a copywriter to work on the final report. We hope to present the data from the 2021 Count in October.

WEBSITE:

Big changes are coming to our website and directory! We’ve hired someone to help move all our member data from the current CMS to Webflow/Airtable so that we’ll be able to automate directory updates via Zapier. This will mean no more delays to add new members or make changes for existing members. It’ll also allow us to set up new filtering options and other functionality so that the directory can better serve our community.

A full site move to Webflow (and a redesign 👀?) is planned for early 2022.

ADMIN:

We’ve been able to purchase Zoom and Mailchimp plans to better support our community events and our email newsletter.

As a board, we plan to maintain transparency and post updates to this platform so that you always know what efforts your donations are going towards. Thank you again for your support!
