This week, we finally got the official confirmation of the album cover, tracklist, and release date, as expected, with the special participation of Big Chongus.
This was followed by a new track, “Insignificant Other,” which is already available to listen to.
And over the last couple of days, Josh gave us more details about the new album during his appearances on BBC Radio 6 Music and the Jake Shears podcast. Here are some of the new details discussed during these appearances:
The release date really is October 30th, not September 30th as we initially thought based on the Five-Finger Fillet teaser. (I wonder if we’ll still get something a month earlier...)
The pre-order is already available, including a Deluxe Edition exclusive to the Matador Records website.
The nine songs have a total runtime of 36:24.
Jake Shears is one of the guests on the new album.
Josh confirmed that “Sunday” will be a cover of Iggy Pop’s song of the same name, originally released on "Post Pop Depression". Listen to it here if you don't know it yet.
Dave Grohl appears on the final track, “Run Away From The Mob,” which is an outtake from the ...Like Clockwork sessions.
Part of the album was recorded at Marigny Studios in New Orleans, while other parts were in recorded at Sound City Studios in LA.
“Insignificant Other” was recorded live, and the version that appears on the album is the second take from that session.
The album was already recorded in 2025, before the "Alive in the Catacombs" tour began, with only some lyrics still missing.
“Phantom Limb” was the last song to be composed and was born from a deep psychedelic experience Josh Homme went through. (six drugs?)
Maybe we’ll hear some new music soon, as there are still dates left on the final leg of the Foo Fighters’ Stadiums Tour in September. Maybe we’ll even get a world tour announcement. Who knows? Everything is Perfecthly possible.
