Goodbye, Twitter X

Goodbye, Twitter X

Nov 18, 2024

After 15 years on Twitter, I finally deleted my account.

For those of you who are not in the loop, Twitter was co-founded by Jack Dorsey in 2007 and it instantly became one of the most viable social media platforms in the world. In 2022, Tesla CEO Elon Musk bought the company for $44 billion and it subsequently became known as X. Since then, the website has become a right-wing platform filled with toxic content and hate speech. Many celebrities have left X like Jamie Lee Curtis, Trent Reznor, Stephen King, Jim Carrey, Whoopi Goldberg, and many others. With the recent integration of AI that can copy posts and artwork, many artists including myself have fled X for good. I officially closed my account yesterday. It was a painful process but it had to be done.

In the pre-X days, Twitter was such a joy. I made lots of friends and learned a lot from various sources. It was a beautiful moment for me to be able to interact with my favourite artists and musicians via tweets. Sadly, everything came to a screeching halt after Twitter was bought over. Everything turned grim. Personally, I was disappointed that after 15 years, I couldn't surpass more than 2K followers. Despite my best efforts to tweet my commission work and ads numerous times, the engagement just wouldn't budge. Such a shame the algorithm sucked then and now. I hope to reach my 10K followers goal here on Threads and Bluesky. I encourage everyone to follow me there.

I don't really have a good closing but to say thank you Twitter for all the fond memories. The platform proved that you can make a difference with only 140 words per tweet.
