Ian Proud was a member of His Majesty's Diplomatic Service from 1999 to 2023. He is now an independent author and consultant on geopolitics and diplomacy, with an particular emphasis on Russia and the Former Soviet Union. His tendencies are internationalist, realist, centrist and economic. In general, he believes that wars are avoidable and that, when they happen, they emerge out of a catastrophic failure of diplomacy and statecraft.
Ian writes actively and on a full time basis, so you could make a huge difference to his work with a cup of coffee. Thank you so much.
Ian also published a book about his four and a half year diplomatic posting to Russia, called A Misfit in Moscow: how British diplomacy in Russia failed, 2014-2019, which you can buy via his website, or any online book store.
