La Cabra - The international coffee bean

Mar 04, 2023

Long time no chat! We had to share this story because it is the tale of two international cities that hold our favorite coffee, ever.

Last fall before our epic Christmas market trip, we visited Aarhus, Denmark. Ever heard of it? Most people think of Copenhagen when visiting Denmark, but Aarhus is the second largest city, AND is known as the city of smiles. ☺️ We were walking around and that day was incredibly windy and a bit chilly. We found a coffee shop in the latin quarter called La Cabra and popped in to warm up and grab a warm beverage. When we walked in we were surprised by the incredibly cozy atmosphere. The floors were old wood with a few rugs, the ceilings were low, the lighting was moody. Basically we wanted to curl up by the fire with a blanket, good book, and a cup of coffee for the rest of the day. We found out later that in Danish there is a word for this sense of "coziness" or "comfort" called "hygge" (H(Y)OO-guh) and boy we never wanted to leave.

Not only was it incredibly cozy, but the coffee was incredible. After chatting with the barista we found out they had 2 other international locations in Bangkok and New York City. Well... spoiler we made it to Bangkok and had to visit. It had been 4 months since we were in Aarhus enjoying the "hygge", and now we were in Bangkok with (much) warmer weather enjoying the same delicious coffee. I dont think that there is a word in Thai for the feeling we had in Aarhus, but on a warm, humid morning in Bangkok there was not much of a better refreshment than an iced La Cabra.

If anyone has been to the location in New York City PLEASE let us know where it is and next time we fly through you might catch us leaving the airport for a cup. Maybe it's our coffee addition speaking but seriously, it's that good. 😉
