When we suffer, there is always a reason for it. We don't usually understand it and we might never, until we pass over to the other side. But we know how often God lets things get broken just to prepare someone for a better life.
Without doubt, the most broken person in the Bible was Job. Satan did everything that he could possibly think of to Job.
He killed his crops, his livestock, and then his children. He took away his health and his property. He covered Job's body in boils. Job was pushed until he wanted to die; he wished that he had never been born. And yet, he would not curse God, no matter how his friends taunted him.
We all suffer a lot in life. The guy sitting next to you on the bus might look like he's just peachy, but he has problems you cannot imagine. What a shock it is to us when some celebrity who “has it all” commits suicide, or dies from a drug overdose.
And most of us, at some time in our life, get broken. Outwardly or inwardly, things just seem so bad that they cannot be fixed. But the fact is, if you have faith and hold the course, God is going to fix it.
If you are suffering right now, realize what it means to be of good courage. If you can just keep going and hold onto your faith, God has guaranteed that things will turn out beyond your highest expectations.
It takes time and patience and, sometimes, simply sucking it up to get through a horrible situation: a terrible disease, the death of a child or spouse, bankruptcy — the list of agonizing pain that life can bring is long and wide.
But here is how we are helped. Once your find your faith, that wall of black despair has a window in it. When life turns pitch black, your faith will lead you to a door handle.
You might not be able to find happiness quickly, but at least you can see the possibility; and once you see the possibility, once you have the courage to take your problem to God, He will strengthen your heart.
We have God's promise that He will bring us to a place of beauty and happiness, where no tear will be shed.
So if you think you are broken beyond repair, take it to God, and be filled with His promise, that you will be healed.
Lord God, let me never despair; for our hope is certain.
