Poetry Junkies began with a joke. It also began with a sensational online class by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Robert Hass which took a deep dive into the work of Nobel Prize-winning poet Czesław Miłosz. During one of the breakout rooms, several avid students and I stayed up late into the night (or in my case, based in Prague, the wee hours of the morning) wrangling and wrestling over the myriad insights in the work we'd covered. Much as we said, there was more to say. At one point, dawn-light glinting my face, I said "Damn, we're poetry junkies!" We agreed to keep meeting, and Poetry Junkies was born.

I have enjoyed this group, and Lucien's leadership, tremendously. Unfortunately, I have developed kidney disease and currently undergo dialysis on Saturday afternoons. I will try to Zoom in by cell phone, but it may not work out. Please keep me on the list. All the best, Rand
