Plume is a free Light menubar app for taking Notes ✒️
I've been looking for a long time for a simple popup app in the menubar to get a little notepad.
I found different solutions like Tyke for example which is really nice, but a little too simple for the job and it has a too small writing area. I also found other nice solutions but the apps were always no free and too complex for the need.
I couldn't find anything I liked, so I took advantage of the confinement to make this app! 😀
Plume is a Free, Fast and Light app for taking notes,
Check the features of it :
- Activate minimalist interface for full focus on text edition
- Activate magic mode to allow smart text completion
- Manage Popover dimension (small, regular, large, xlarge)
It's a simple version for the moment, but if you like it I could work on a more complex version with :
- Advanced Backup
- Several notes
- Checkboxes
- Management of bold, italic, ..
And if you really like this application, you can financially support the project here!

Just downloaded Plume today and it's EXACTLY what I was hoping for (have only tried minimalist version, so far). Thank you!
But, if I was asking for any work/upgrading to be done, it would be to allow the user to pull/resize the length of the dimensions (don't really care to change your pre-set widths, they're great) when I may have a longer list (what I would do with spaces like this).
Don't add features for getting things done or journaling and leave it plain text (no markdown), as Mac users have other programs that generate macros for the symbols, text insertions and the like that I'd want access to (and have proven already are working fine in Plume), but the length being customizable would be brilliant.
Less critical, but something I'd use if implemented, would be a global keyboard shortcut to show/hide Plume. Then I/you/anyone could see what's there without reaching for the mouse (when you're on the phone or a Zoom call, for ex).
KEEP IT SIMPLE.
I was looking for this before and much prefer something accessible and anchored in the menubar to a Post-Its styled app.
Thank you for authoring something that I know will be increasingly a big part of my day-to-day existence when working.
And thank you for reading my blathering about here. But this is all you need to do, IMHO, for now.
