FAQ

How are you going to use the money from memberships?

The money from memberships will be used to support our efforts to design, code, test, and launch new features on the site, as well as improve the current site based on user feedback. As a member, you'll receive regular updates from the PMD Team about what we're working on, you'll be able to follow along with our progress, and provide feedback on our work. We aim to be as transparent as possible so that you understand where your money is going. Development updates will be posted to this Buy Me a Coffee page, and you'll be notified by email when a new update post is made.

Why are you crowdfunding?

The database and search engine are free and open to all users. While we do plan to run ads to help offset some of our development costs, ads will never be enough to cover all of our costs. Developing new features for PMD is complicated and expensive, because everything on the site is designed in-house. While this is more expensive than using pre-built templates, a website builder, or plugins, it ensures that our website runs fast, smooth, and that every feature works together well. We need regular financial support to help fund our development projects. The new features we have planned will add additional functionality to the site and eventually allow us to sell products that will support our mission. Crowdfunding allows us to raise the money needed in order to build out paid features while also giving our followers a way of supporting our work.

What are these new features and when will they be completed?

Our first project is building user accounts. This is foundation for all other features that we'll build. Next, we'll be adding the ability for composers and publishers to add their own music to the database, which will help us grow the music in the database much faster. Finally, a pair of exciting features: favorites and custom lists. We are currently working on all of these right now! We expect to complete user accounts within the month and composers should be able to start adding their own music by mid-summer. Favorites and lists will come sometime in early fall. These dates are subject to change, and all updates on this roadmap will be posted to our members on Buy Me a Coffee. Members will get deep dives into these features as we build them and they'll also get to try them out during our testing phase, before they go public!

Why should I join?

You should join if you like the work we're doing with PMD and you want to support us. That's the main benefit. Some other benefits include being able to use all of the new features well before the public. You'll also be able to give us your feedback on them, which means you can have a direct impact on the experience for other users. The last benefit is more in-depth coverage from the team. If you want to be involved and know exactly what we're up to, a monthly membership will give you that access.

What are my donation options?

You can join the membership for $5 per month or $60 per year. You can also support us, which is a one-time donation of any amount. Keep in mind that there are no rewards for one-time payments. If you'd like the rewards but want to give more, you can join the membership and support us with a one-time gift. Don't like monthly subscriptions? You can also pay for an entire year at $60.
