Hi, I'm David Mendes – science communicator, podcast host, and your go-to guide for navigating life Beyond the Thesis.

After earning my PhD in cell biology, I realized academia wasn’t the only path. Like many researchers, I faced a tough transition and had to reinvent my career from scratch. That journey led me to launch the Beyond the Thesis with Papa PhD podcast – a space where I help fellow PhDs turn their hard-earned knowledge into fulfilling, real-world opportunities.

Since 2019, I’ve hosted over 300 conversations with PhD grads who’ve carved unique paths in and beyond academia – from industry and entrepreneurship to science communication and policymaking. My mission? To normalize career diversity for researchers and equip them with the tools to own their story and confidently shape their professional journey.

Whether you’re a fresh PhD, a seasoned academic, or simply figuring out your next move, I’m here to help you brew a new vision for your future – one strong cup of clarity at a time.
