A Morning Coffee Book Club! (click on title to see post)

Aug 30, 2023

Good Morning. So many of you know I love books and expanding my reading interest. I also know I have gotten lazy about actually actually cracking a book. Some of this was due to my anxiety and attention being not so great the past few years. Also my failing eyesight was making it a difficult but I now had my eyes checked and have new glasses in the past year so NO EXCUSES. I also know that when I moved back to Wisconsin in 2007 for a brief period I joined a book book club at the Waukesha Public library. I can't recall the book we read but I recall how strange if felt being sort of looked at as an outcast with my face tattooed and alternative angry punk old guy stare. Yet I also participated and brought my insights in what would have been a sort of ho hum book club. The woman who ran came up afterwards and chatted me up some and we made a connection and committed to see each other next month and I even checked out the next book selection. Unfortunately I did not stay in Waukesha long enough to participate again.

So I am thinking if there is enough interest of doing a book club zoom meeting on here! Make it a small membership section for say $3.00 you get access to the Zoom Meetings and exclusive content.

I haven't sorted it all out yet but I am thinking of what that could be and or look like on here.

The following is books or authors are one's I am thinking about list for a "Book Club" on here. (I need a better name than Book Club.)

  • Dear Dead Person by Benjamin Weissman

  • Closer by Dennis Cooper (thinking of doing the entire George Miles series of books) and also Wrong which is sort of separate but not?)

  • Kathy Goes To Haiti by Kathy Acker (in Literal Madness) because while many don't speak of it, it's not her bet work but something about it I love!

  • Negrophobia: an Urban Parable by Darius James

  • The Complete Shorter Fiction of Virginia Woolf ( selected or all not sure as I have not read any of this yet)

  • Crazy For Vincent by Herve Guibert or Selections from Written in Invisible Ink by Herve Guibert

  • Patti Smith's Kids or M-Train

  • Coma or In The Deep by Pierre Guyotat

Also what are others thoughts of doing books outside of fiction or novels for book groups. Examples Biographies /Autobiography about artist and writers such as The Waterfront Journals. (1997). Grove/Atlantic, In the Shadow of the American Dream: The Diaries of David Wojnarowicz, Weight of the Earth: The Tape Journals of David Wojnarowicz.  I may just do a zoom or two on different writers /artist whose work I love and see what takes shape this could be a bit on David Wojanrowicz.

One series Kathy Acker, A few of her novels and then also view Who's Afraid of Kathy Acker, Or the South Bank episode on her.

Dennis Cooper and do all the George Mills Cycle (Closer, Frisk, Try, Guide and Period along with Wrong) and then talk about his film work, Like Cattle Towards Glow and Permanent Green Light. I have never seen the film version of Frisk and well not sure if it is available? Was it awful ? Is it worth trying to find?imageimage

Swans Way Book One of In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust (? though I may do a Separate year long level delve into the entire, In Search of Lost Time (aka Remembrance of Things Past) and other bits by and about Marcel Proust) I want others who are committed to a deep dive of this work so not sure yet where this fits)

Books about a place or time such as, Spectacular Wickedness: Sex, Race, and Memory in Storyville, New Orleans by Emily Epstein Landau?

Basically a dive into areas that interest me and I would love to have others to talk about it with or hear from others about works that influence or inspire them!

So let me know what you think. Would this interest you?
