Self-Care Sunday Can Be Every Day of the week!
Stress management doesn’t come naturally to everyone—trust me, it didn’t for me. Back in high school, I was so bad at handling stress that I got pulled into special classes designed to teach us how to cope. Spoiler alert: they didn’t stick. It took years of continuous challenges, heartbreaks, and moments of utter overwhelm to finally force me to rebuild myself in a healthier way. It wasn’t easy, but those struggles helped me craft practical tools and strategies for managing stress—and now, I want to share them with you.
These simple, accessible ways to relieve stress can turn your Self-Care Sunday into an everyday ritual:
1. Bubble Baths Are the Best Medicine
You’ve seen them in commercials, heard about moms escaping into them, and pictured them as part of any spa day. But have you ever tried making a bubble bath your personal reset button?
• What to do: Dedicate 30 minutes to a warm soak. Add your favorite lavender-scented bubble bath, a candle or two, maybe even a rubber duckie. The warm water eases tension, and the act of carving out time for yourself washes away some of the mental clutter.
2. Stay Hydrated!
Here’s a fun fact: dehydration makes you grumpy and even messes with your skin. Think of your body like the Tin Man—just as he needs oil, you need water to keep your gears running smoothly.
• What to do: Grab your water bottle and drink up. Keeping hydrated keeps your body functioning at its best, helping peel away layers of stress you didn’t even know were there.
3. Take a Walk—Yes, Even Just Around the Block
Feeling stuck? Moving your body is one of the quickest ways to shift your focus and energy.
• What to do: Walk around the block or head to your favorite park. Look at the trees, crunch leaves under your feet, jump in a puddle if there’s one nearby. Channel your inner kid and let yourself be in the moment. Even a quick stroll can leave you feeling lighter.
4. Indulge in Your Favorite Food
Stress eating doesn’t have to be mindless—make it a joyful, mindful experience.
• What to do: Treat yourself to your favorite dessert, pizza, or meal. The anticipation of getting your favorite food can be a mini adventure in itself. Once you have it, take your time to savor every bite. That time is yours.
5. Escape Into Your Favorite TV Show or Movie
Sometimes the best way to let go is to immerse yourself in a story that isn’t your own.
• What to do: Watch your favorite movie, sitcom, or documentary. Let the drama, laughter, or intrigue of the screen transport you to another world. For an hour or two, let Hollywood do the heavy lifting while you unwind.
These five strategies may sound simple, but they’ve helped me navigate some of the hardest moments in my life. There were times when I had just five minutes between obligations and other times when I could dedicate an hour or two. No matter what, the key was choosing me during those moments—choosing not to give my time and energy away to stress.
The magic of self-care is that it doesn’t have to wait until Sunday. Build a list of what makes you happy, what soothes you, and what feels like a personal reset. Then, use it every day of the week. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes.
What’s on your self-care list? Share your go-to strategies in the comments—I’d love to hear how you take care of yourself. Let’s inspire each other to make self-care a daily habit!
