It's on! Will you be there?

It's on! Will you be there?

Apr 20, 2022

Next week is our very first fundraiser for Paddington Then and Now! We are beyond excited to be able to present the story of Under the Lino (book) to our neighbourhood where it all began.

Caylie has been very busy tweaking her talk to include behind the scenes anecdotes and plenty of local history. We do hope you can make it to say hello and grab a drink with us.

Next Wednesday 27 April at 6.30pm (for a 7pm start) at Red Hill Cinemas. Tickets are selling fast and it's an intimate 60 seat cinema, so you'd best be quick!

Tickets available here on Eventbrite.

Thank you for being wonderful supporters of our work, we hope to be able to get a lot more information and photos up onto our website in the coming months.

In the meantime, with assistance from the Brisbane City Council, we are commemorating the soldiers from the Ithaca War Memorial (IWM). The memorial is celebrating its centenary this year and we wanted to mark the occasion by sharing 100 stories throughout the year. You can follow along in the Facebook group Ithaca War Memorial Centenary or search the hashtag #Ithaca100

Below: The Unveiling of the Ithaca War Memorial in 1922. Enoggera Terrace Paddington. Groups such as the First Company Boys Brigade, Girl Guides and Scouts have attended every ANZAC memorial service for the past 100 years.

The work we have been doing to research the soldiers and their families has been extremely rewarding and at times, emotional for us. We are thrilled to be working with Kieran McCarthy who has himself been researching our soldiers and it made sense to collaborate with him on this important project. There's even talk about a more permanent commemoration in the form of a book...watch this space!

If you are coming to ANZAC Day at Ithaca War Memorial (7.15am) there will be a morning tea straight afterwards at the Ithaca Presbyterian Church which is open to anyone. Inside the church we will be displaying on the big screen some of our research including soldiers who appear on the church Honour Roll and also the War Memorial.

Hope you can make it!

Thanks for your support.
