Starting in September 2018, I wanted The Sentinel to be a free newspaper for my friends and their neighbors in St. Joseph, Ogden, and Royal. After repeated encouragement from parents in the Unity School district, I added Tolono, Sidney, and Philo to the list of communities the paper covers. In August 2019, as the Covid-19 virus made its way to America, I was excited to add Urbana.

During the first year, I had hoped to attract four or five regular advertisers to help bring more stories and local content in print to our readers. Unfortunately, it seems local businesses aren't able to support your local news at the moment. Not ready to throw in the towel, we created this Buy Me Coffee page for loyal readers willing to help support The Sentinel's mission of covering local sports and news.

There are literally dozens of stories to tell every week and events to photograph every week, and your support will go towards making sure I can publish as many stories and photos close to home as we can.
