let’s get into it!😎 I caught a glimpse of Luffy in his baseball outfit and I just knew it was gonna be a good one.⚾️
The chapter begins with Mars looming over the laboratory and Jinbei commenting on what an unreal haki presence the bird is exuding 😳
Then, Jinbei tells Zoro that it's time to go but Zoro tells him that Lucci is still standing. Lucci is shown with three horizontal slashes across his torso, but he let's out a frustrated growl 🐆
Before Lucci can do anything else, Jinbei let's out a punch attack that puts some distance between them 👊 Lucci is left unsatisfied 😡
As soon as the boys make their escape, Mars bumps into Lucci and asks him where York is. By the look of Lucci's face, we can tell that he's shocked at the sight of a transformed Gorosei 😳 However, Lucci begins reporting where everyone is including the Straw Hats 👒
The next page has had me thinking about the chapter since it came out 🤔 Mars commends Lucci for his work and is about to leave him, but Lucci asks him to save his partner Kaku because he's injured 🦒 To which Mars responds that it might be impossible since he has to kill everyone in the island. But the way he worded was eerily poetic: "It is hard to single out a lone INSECT when you're exterminating the hive." 🐛 🪲 Idk about you guys but this is hitting close to home considering what's been going on in the news lately as well as our entire world history 🌎 There are and have been people in power who consider most human beings as insects or trash or expendable. They don't understand or value human life and think that no matter how many people die, there will always be more humans who will multiply and inhabit the world 🫂 We've seen this attitude with most Celestial Dragons as well.
From there, we shift our focus to Luffy, the giants, and Mercury and Saturn. The giants comment that they almost didn't recognize Luffy and ask him how he knew what Nika looked like 🌞 Luffy tells them that he doesn't know what they're talking about, but that they can discuss it later because instead of fighting, they need to escape 🏃♂️
The giants compare the Gorosei to wild beasts they fight in the forest and tell Luffy that Sanji had informed them of escaping and that they need to bring Luffy to the back of the island.
In one of the panels, Oda gives us a map of where everyone is which is great because it reminds us of what everyone is doing and where they are📍
Then, Dorry blows a horn to signal a retreat to the rest of the giants on the island who comment that the Marines don't have any loot and that the reason they are there is to help Luffy out 📯 Mercury reacts to the signal and decides to "blow his own horn" by letting out a monstrous roar infused with haki that is similar to a heavily strong gust of wind 💪
The roar is so strong that not only does it knock off some of Luffy's clothing, but it also blows away his eye balls, clouds, and even his chest scar! 🌬 😳 At the same time, it starts to knock out some of the marines on the ships 😆
Luffy recovers to which Dorry mentions that his body is funky haha 😄 but then Mercury jumps and spins in the air toward them and almost slices our protagonists with his tusks which have oddly enough turned into swords 🗡 Dorry and Broggy block the attack with both of their shields and call it "Svalinn" which was a mythical shield in Norse mythology that could block the sun (in this case it's protecting the "sun", Luffy).
Mercury asks them how Luffy and the giants are connected and if they know who Luffy truly is. To which they reply, "Of course we do! He's our buddy!" 👬 As they block his attack, the giants send Mercury flying back with their shields calling it Skilja which was a way of saying "to split" in certain Scandinavian languages 🪓
As Mercury falls back, Saturn retaliates by saying he will kill the giants along with Luffy if they truly are allies with him. Saturn shoots out a bunch of black balls that Luffy recognizes as venom so Luffy pulls out a nearby tree from the ground and proceeds to carve out a baseball bat using his teeth! 😬
Then comes my favorite part of the chapter and of Luffy's abilities 😳 Since we found out that Luffy is this quirky cartoon god, we've been able to see crazy abilities that we would only see in a Loony Tunes episode and I'm all here for it 😁😁 Anyway, Luffy not only produces a BASEBALL BAT out of the tree he pulled, but he also paints it with a brush and a paint can that came out of nowhere🖌 Must be Haki, right?! Then, he puts on a baseball helmet that also came out of nowhere and I can't help but recall when he pulled out those goggles out of his hair when he fought Lucci! Lmao 😆
Finally, Luffy knocks back the venom balls towards the Gorosei and we find out that they were bombs as they explode on the Elders! 💣
As the giants and Luffy are ready to head out, Broggy notes that the Gorosei are finished but Luffy informs them that the Gorosei can't die and we see that they are coming out of the explosion unfazed 😳😳
Dorry asks if the Gorosei really are immortal to which Luffy replies that he doesn't know but his attacks aren't affecting them 🚫Broggy mentions that he's never heard of a race or ability that would grant immortality and that even though they're now running, he considers this a victory ✌️ We then see each group almost making it to the Sunny but all is not over as we see vice captains blocking their path 🚧 We get to Oda's note and I realized that this chapter was the true last one before the 3 week break. OK!
In the final, FINAL page of the chapter, we see Mars meeting up with York asking about some room on a monitor, but she's too scared of the monster that she tells him to leave her alone. We see that the marines are trying to help Kizaru up from his spot on the ship, but Kizaru is so obviously broken in all manners: he failed more than once and he's had to fight against old allies. I'm sure this guy is gonna go through a dark time 😔 And finally, FINALLY we see that the ancient giant robot that Luffy accidentally awakened is on the move across the island. The marines notice that the flames aren't affecting it and that it's bigger than a giant. When the last panel is shown, the giant robot mumbles an apology to Joy Boy which I'm still not sure why there have been multiple incidents like this one.
