I’m Jonathan, a British expat documenting my journey transforming an abandoned villa in Trapani, Sicily, into a sustainable off-grid family home. What began as a dream to escape the rat race has become a full-time DIY restoration adventure filled with hard work, creativity, and determination. Why Sicily?

Sicily’s history, raw beauty, and slower pace of life immediately captured me. The challenge of bringing a long-abandoned rural villa back to life surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, and mountain views was too special to resist. From local markets to kind neighbours, every day brings something new. While the work is tough, the rewards are endless, restoring not just a building, but a piece of Italian countryside history
