About Sylvie
poems
I write poetry and prose exploring the magic realism of the human experience. The themes of love, liberation, grace, grief, second chances, interconnectedness, personal empowerment, hope and joy weave through my writing. I write to and for my fellows; in the words of James Baldwin, “It is not a romantic matter. It is the unutterable truth: all men are brothers.”
I write always with thanks for and in honor of Black writers, elders and community that have held me and assisted me on my path back to love and liberation.
Some of my greatest influences are Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, Alice Walker, Jesmyn Ward & Kiese Laymon.
