Autumn: New Beginnings

Autumn: New Beginnings

Revelations 4:11, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

In the days that I was trying to be a pagan I always wanted this mystical feeling around the changing of the seasons. I never received that feeling. In my heart I knew why that spiritual mystical thought was not showing up in my life.

  1. I was not following my true self. I am a Christian. I am a Episcopalian.

  2. The mystical spiritual life doesn’t come without gratefulness.

As I have written in a previous blog, I am an Episcopalian. I believe in God and his son is the Messiah. Jesus is the Son of God. It has taken years for me to realize that God loves me as his daughter. In my twenties Christians seemed mean, angry and unforgiving. Yes, a lot of this is true, but what I was missing is that people are not perfect. The church is not perfect. I don’t have to stay at a church if the I don’t feel the Holy Spirit is within the service. I don’t have to stay at a church if I don’t feel that the theology isn’t at least giving me a little nugget that I can learn. My husband and I found the Episcopal church that we feel the love of God. We can benefit from the fellowship of others within the church.

The mystical spiritual life is about gratefulness. In the morning I wake up and open the blinds. My husband and I live on the river in Florida. When I open the blinds to see the sun peeking out through the clouds reflecting off the of the river I am grateful. I am blessed. I and my husband have worked hard to be where we are at as empty nesters. We live a pretty modest life with the occasional splurge but we are grateful for that life. We do our best not to complain. There are moments as we are human. I am grateful to be blessed by God with sunrises and Sunsets. I am blessed to see dolphins, jumping fish and birds trying to catch those fish and I am blessed to see the lizards that hang out trying to heat up in the sun. We have affectionally named the lizards. We receive visits from, Rick Morty and Summer. If you know the show let me know in comments.

As I am writing these words I am also listening to Joyce Meyer. It was a small comment on a commercial about one of her books. I know she’s not exactly popular with some in Christian circles, but her no nonsense advice really his home sometimes. It may not be theology but if her messages got you to open up a Bible then there is not a problem. Anyway, her little quip caught my attention.  Complain is to remain. This means that if you are continuing to complain then you are going to remain in your situation.  Praise to be raised. Gratefulness. This is how I interpret the meaning. If you are not going to be grateful in your current situation which means you are probably going to be complaining which means you will remain. This is the mystical feel good of our spiritual life. Gratefulness. We may not see our prayers answered right away. When we are grateful and not complaining we are handling our day to day life better when issues arise, we are kinder to ourselves, love those around us better and we are generally happy. Wake up. Open those blinds(no matter where you are) and just be grateful. Our lives are only for a moment. We do not want to spend eternity in our previous life. I leave you with this scripture from the Apostle Paul to remind you that a new season is upon us, so leave the complaining behind, but be raised in Christ Jesus. God is Good. All the Time. God is Good.

2 Corinthians 17-21, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, no counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are there fore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Amen
