Surah Al-Baqarah (Verses 1-5) – The Opening of the Last Goodbye Letter
As we begin Ramadan, we start with the first verses of Surah Al-Baqarah, the final and most profound chapter revealed in full. This surah is unique:
It is the last complete surah revealed.
It is the longest surah, covering everything a believer needs to know.
No other surah opens like this, and no other surah closes like it.
These first five verses introduce the foundation of faith and categorize people into three groups: believers, disbelievers, and hypocrites.

📖 الٓمٓ ١ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ لَا رَيۡبَۛ فِيهِۛ هُدٗى لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ ٢ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ يُنفِقُونَ ٣ وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبۡلِكَ وَبِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ هُمۡ يُوقِنُونَ ٤ أُوْلَٰئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدٗى مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُوْلَٰئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ٥
📖 English Translation:
1. Alif, Lam, Meem.
2. This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah.
3. Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them.
4. And who believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain [in faith].
5. It is they who are upon guidance from their Lord, and it is they who will be successful.

🔎 Breakdown of Themes
1️⃣ The Quran: A Book Without Doubt (Verse 2)
🔹 "This is the Book in which there is no doubt..."
The Quran is perfect—a divine guidance with no contradiction or uncertainty.
Unlike human writings, the Quran’s wisdom, laws, and truth remain unchanged.
This statement challenges skeptics to find any error, which no one has ever done.

The Prophet (PBUH) said:
"The Quran is the strong rope of Allah, the clear light, and the wise reminder. Whoever follows it is upon guidance, and whoever abandons it is in misguidance." (Ibn Hibban)

2️⃣ Who Benefits from the Quran? (Verse 3-4)
Allah tells us that not everyone will accept the Quran. Only the muttaqoon (those who fear Allah) benefit from it. Who are they?
✅ They believe in the unseen – They trust in Allah, angels, paradise, hell, and destiny.
✅ They establish prayer – They perform salah, which keeps them connected to Allah.
✅ They give from their wealth – They share what they have, proving faith through action.
✅ They believe in past revelations – They accept previous scriptures like the Torah and Gospel.
✅ They are certain of the Hereafter – They live for the next life, not just this one.
📜 Hadith on Faith in the Unseen:
The Prophet (PBUH) said:
"The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allah loves a people, He tests them. Whoever is content will receive Allah’s pleasure, but whoever is discontent will earn His wrath." (Tirmidhi)

🔹 "They are upon guidance from their Lord, and they will be successful."
Success is not wealth, power, or fame—true success is faith and righteousness.
Even if life is difficult, Allah promises eternal success to those who follow His path.

"True success is when one is guided to Islam, has sufficient provision, and is content with what Allah has given them." (Muslim)
