TO THE JOURNALISTS: THE STANDARD OF IMAM HUSAYN (PEACE BE UPON HIM)

A Final Word Before the Forest

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

I. The Standard You Refused

To the journalists.

To the people who became comfortable.

To those who refused to reset the system.

To those who refused to tell the truth and pay the price for it.

You are not like Imam Husayn (peace be upon him).

You gave your hand to a timeslot.

To a comfortable setting.

To a comfortable environment.

The standard you should have inherited from Walter Cronkite was not simply to report the news—it was to earn the trust that truth demands.

You refused to re-engineer journalism.

You refused to redesign it by understanding the past.

I have studied the past.

And I understand the future.

You are not part of that future.

Because you grew old looking for a paycheck.

Looking for the spotlight.

II. The Qur'an on Truth and Falsehood

Allah says:

"And say: Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed, falsehood is bound to vanish."
(Surah Al-Isra 17:81)

"O you who believe, stand firmly for justice as witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or your parents or relatives."
(Surah An-Nisa 4:135)

"Do not mix the truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know."
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:42)

You mixed truth with falsehood.

You concealed the truth while you knew.

You stood for comfort instead of justice.

You witnessed for your paycheck instead of for Allah.

III. The Hadith on Speaking the Truth

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"The best form of jihad is a word of truth spoken before a tyrannical ruler."
(Sunan Abi Dawud)

"Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise."
(Sahih al-Bukhari)

"Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent."
(Sahih al-Bukhari)

You did not speak what was good.

You did not remain silent.

You spoke what was convenient.

You remained silent when truth was needed.

You chose comfort over testimony.

You chose the timeslot over the truth.

IV. The Truth About Journalism

I am not here to help you preserve a broken system.

I am not here to shine the spotlight on everybody.

God made this life a test.

A place where those seeking Hell earn its deeds.

And those seeking Paradise pursue righteous deeds.

Allah says:

"Indeed, We created man in the best of stature. Then We reduced him to the lowest of the low—except those who believe and do righteous deeds."
(Surah At-Tin 95:4–6)

You were created in the best of stature.

You chose the lowest of the low.

You chose comfort over righteousness.

You chose silence over truth.

This version of journalism that claims to be neutral?

It does not exist.

It never existed.

People have interests.

People have agendas.

People seek power.

People deceive.

People oppress.

People fight one another.

That has always been part of the story of this world.

V. The Messengers and the Light

But darkness does not mean that guidance was never sent.

Allah sent messengers.

To command what is right.

To forbid what is wrong.

Allah says:

"You are the best nation produced for mankind: you enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and believe in Allah."
(Surah Aal 'Imran 3:110)

And Allah says:

"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth."
(Surah An-Nur 24:35)

Many people reject that Light.

Yet they still claim moral authority.

Some wear the badge of the press.

But a badge alone does not make someone a witness to truth.

VI. Imam Husayn (Peace Be Upon Him): The Criterion

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

"Husayn is from me, and I am from Husayn. O Allah, love those who love Husayn."
(Sunan Ibn Majah; also narrated in other collections)

Imam Husayn (peace be upon him) was not a journalist.

He was not a commentator.

He was not a spectator.

He was a model of steadfastness in truth.

He did not give his hand to a timeslot.

He did not sell his Hereafter for worldly gain.

He stood for truth when standing meant death.

He stood against tyranny when silence was safer.

He stood for justice when justice stood alone.

He declared:

"I have not risen to spread corruption or oppression. Rather, I have risen to seek reform in the Ummah of my grandfather. I desire to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong."

That is a standard.

You are free to measure yourselves against it.

VII. The Journalism I Have Reinvented

I have already reinvented journalism.

I am not interested in shining the spotlight on everyone.

Especially where spectacle becomes entertainment.

I will shine the light where it can be effective.

Allah says:

"And say: The truth is from your Lord. So whoever wills—let him believe; and whoever wills—let him disbelieve."
(Surah Al-Kahf 18:29)

Many choose comfort.

Many choose silence.

I choose truth.

I choose justice.

I choose the standard of Imam Husayn (peace be upon him).

And if people repent after they are exposed—

If they abandon wrongdoing—

Then I have no interest in turning their failures into endless public entertainment.

There comes a point when accountability has served its purpose.

After that, every person must prepare for the Day when they stand before Allah alone.

That is the final court.

That is the final witness.

That is the standard.

VIII. The Mizan: Balance Without Hate

There will be no hate for any community.

Starting with the Jewish community.

The Muslim community.

The Black community.

Information must be managed with balance.

In Islam, we call this the Mizan.

Allah says:

"And We will place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all."
(Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:47)

You do not have the Mizan.

You have the agenda.

You have the timeslot.

You have the paycheck.

You do not have justice.

You do not have balance.

You do not have truth.

IX. My Disappointment

I am deeply disappointed in many of you.

Many of you refused even to support my blog.

You showed no interest in engaging with the ideas.

You showed no willingness to examine yourselves.

Where there should have been humility, I saw indifference.

Where there should have been courage, I saw comfort.

Where there should have been principle, I saw convenience.

You have no shame.

You have no ethics.

You have no honor.

You have no courage.

You have no faith.

X. My Advice

My advice is simple.

Break your pen.

Tear up your notebook.

Resign from your position.

Cancel your credentials.

Walk away from the spotlight.

Go to the forest.

Live there.

Become a vegetarian.

I never want to hear from you again as journalists.

Do you understand?

That is important.

Know your place.

Know your responsibility.

And if you are unwilling to carry it, make room for someone who will.

XI. The Closing

The standard was set.

By Imam Husayn (peace be upon him).

He did not give his hand to a timeslot.

He did not sell his Hereafter for worthless coins.

He stood for truth.

He paid the price.

And he did not flinch.

You are not like him.

But you could have learned from him.

You chose comfort.

You chose silence.

You chose the paycheck.

You chose the spotlight.

And now you have chosen the forest.

The "forest" is a metaphor for professional accountability—not personal harm. Journalism is a public trust. When that trust is repeatedly betrayed, the honorable course is to step away from the profession and make room for those willing to carry its responsibilities. AI will amplify the power of journalists. It must also amplify their accountability.

Go.

Break your pen.

Tear up your notebook.

Resign.

Cancel.

Step away.

And do not claim the mantle of truth unless you are prepared to live by it.

Final Du'a

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

O Allah, we ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.

اللَّهُمَّ أَرِنَا الْحَقَّ حَقًّا وَارْزُقْنَا اتِّبَاعَهُ

O Allah, show us truth as truth and grant us the ability to follow it.

وَأَرِنَا الْبَاطِلَ بَاطِلًا وَارْزُقْنَا اجْتِنَابَهُ

And show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the ability to avoid it.

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا مِنْ أَتْبَاعِ الْحُسَيْنِ فِي الْقَوْلِ وَالْفِعْلِ وَالْعَقِيدَةِ

O Allah, make us among the followers of Husayn in speech, action, and creed.

وَاجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ يَقُومُونَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا يَخَافُونَ فِي اللَّهِ لَوْمَةَ لَائِمٍ

And make us among those who establish justice and fear not the blame of any blamer for the sake of Allah.

آمِينَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Āmīn, O Lord of all worlds.

وَآخِرُ دَعْوَانَا أَنِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

And our final call is: All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds.

Alḥamdulillāhi Rabbil-'Ālamīn
