A MESSAGE TO SECRETARY OF STATE MARCO RUBIO
THE POLITICS OF THE FUTURE — AMERICA NEEDS BETTER PLAY CALLERS
Dear Secretary Marco Rubio,
There is little doubt in my mind that elections in the age of AI are going to become something fundamentally different.
I describe the coming transformation as 50–50.
Not because AI receives 50 percent of the vote. Human beings remain sovereign. Human beings vote.
But because the voter of the future will increasingly have two enormous sources of intelligence available when deciding who deserves power:
Human judgment—and machine-assisted examination of the record.
AI will be able to examine years of speeches, votes, decisions, diplomatic accomplishments, promises, contradictions, crises, successes, failures, and public communications.
The campaign commercial will say one thing.
THE RECORD WILL SAY ANOTHER.
And increasingly, voters will be able to ask:
What did this person actually do?
Did they listen?
Did they solve anything?
Did they change course when the evidence changed?
Did they serve when nobody was campaigning?
Why is this person actually qualified to lead?
That is why what you are doing right now matters.
The future campaign is already being written.
SECRETARY RUBIO, LET ME EXPLAIN THIS IN THE MOST AMERICAN LANGUAGE POSSIBLE: FOOTBALL.
A quarterback could theoretically walk onto the field and attempt to improvise every play.
But Americans understand something deeper about competition:
EVERY PLAY DESERVES THOUGHT.
There is an offensive coordinator.
There is a defensive coordinator.
There are coaches studying formations.
There are specialists studying film.
There are players seeing things from field level that somebody sitting high above the stadium might miss.
Different minds see different parts of the field.
And ultimately somebody has to call the play and somebody has to execute it.
That is remarkably close to the political philosophy behind my Superuser System.
THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T HAVE TO INVENT EVERY PLAY.
Imagine America itself becoming the greatest strategy room ever assembled.
A teacher has a better education play?
Dial it in.
A truck driver understands a transportation problem Washington doesn't?
Dial it in.
A Muslim American understands something about communicating with Iran that conventional diplomacy is missing?
Dial it in.
A veteran understands the battlefield differently?
Dial it in.
An engineer sees an infrastructure solution?
Dial it in.
A mother sees something government completely overlooked?
DIAL IN THE PLAY.
Then AI helps examine it.
Other citizens challenge it.
Experts stress-test it.
Government compares it against its own strategy.
And if the citizen's play is better?
RUN THE BETTER PLAY.
Government retains lawful authority.
The President remains President.
The Secretary remains Secretary.
Congress remains Congress.
Courts remain courts.
But government no longer has to pretend that every intelligent idea must originate inside government.
That is the breakthrough.
THE SUPERUSER SYSTEM IS NOT ABOUT REPLACING GOVERNMENT.
IT IS ABOUT MAKING GOVERNMENT BETTER.
The citizen becomes another source of strategy.
AI becomes an analytical instrument.
The Open Office becomes the scoreboard and film room.
And elected leadership remains responsible for deciding which lawful plays actually get executed.
That creates something politics desperately needs:
COMPETITION BETWEEN IDEAS INSTEAD OF COMPETITION ONLY BETWEEN PARTIES.
Republican idea.
Democratic idea.
Independent idea.
Government idea.
Citizen idea.
AI-assisted idea.
Put them on the board.
Run the simulation.
Challenge the assumptions.
Then execute the best lawful play available.
PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME THE GREAT LISTENING PRESIDENT.
Ronald Reagan became remembered as the Great Communicator.
Imagine another distinctly American presidential legacy:
THE GREAT LISTENER.
A president confident enough to say:
“I don't care where the idea came from. If it helps America, bring it to me.”
That is strength.
And Secretary Rubio, the same principle applies to you.
You don't have to possess every answer.
You need the judgment to recognize a great answer when somebody brings it to you.
That may become one of the most valuable leadership abilities of the AI era.
Because when intelligence becomes abundant, leadership stops being primarily about proving that you are the smartest person in the room.
LEADERSHIP BECOMES THE ABILITY TO FIND THE BEST PLAY IN THE ROOM.
And sometimes—
the best play may come from outside the room entirely.
THAT IS WHY THIS MOMENT IS BIGGER THAN ONE ELECTION.
This is about renewing something Americans are beginning to lose:
the belief that participation matters.
Imagine telling an American teenager:
Your idea matters.
Imagine telling a mechanic:
Your experience matters.
Imagine telling somebody driving a truck across Arizona:
You are allowed to think about foreign policy.
Imagine telling someone without a university degree, lobbyist, donor network, television contract, or government title:
IF YOUR PLAY IS BETTER, PUT IT ON THE BOARD.
That begins renewing participation.
Participation renews responsibility.
Responsibility renews citizenship.
And citizenship can renew something even larger:
THE AMERICAN DREAM ITSELF.
The American Dream was never merely about becoming wealthy.
It was the radical proposition that where you begin should not permanently determine how far your contribution can travel.
AI gives us an extraordinary opportunity to extend that principle into the world of ideas.
THIS IS WHAT I WANT YOU AND THE PRESIDENT TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT MY WORK.
All these letters.
All these diagrams.
All these proposals.
All these Open Office experiments.
All these hours spent examining problems.
Ultimately, they point toward one destination:
A DEMOCRACY THAT CAN LISTEN BETTER.
A government confident enough to receive plays from its citizens.
Citizens responsible enough to develop serious plays worth considering.
AI powerful enough to help examine them.
And leaders wise enough to know when somebody outside government has found something government missed.
Secretary Rubio, that is not a small political reform.
That is a different relationship between the citizen and power.
And if America gets it right, perhaps one day the defining question inside government will no longer be:
“Who gave us this idea?”
It will simply be:
“IS IT THE BEST PLAY?”
If the answer is yes—
RUN IT.
Let America listen.
Let Americans participate.
Let the best ideas compete.
Let leadership execute.
And perhaps, together, we can renew the extraordinary promise that built this country in the first place:
