THE MAWLID IS FARDU KIFAYA. PERIOD.

An Official Declaration Based on the Quran, the Sunnah, and the Principles of Fiqh.

By Omar — standing on solid ground. Challenge me if you can.

My Stand:

I declare, without hesitation, without apology, and without fear of contradiction: For Muslims living in the West, visibly and joyfully celebrating the Mawlid of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has become Fardu Kifaya (a communal obligation).

This is not a recommendation. This is not a "nice-to-have." This is not a cultural event. This is a defensive obligation mandated by the principles of our Deen to protect the Iman of our children. If the scholars disagree, let them bring their evidence. But I am standing on the Quran, the Hadith, and the very spirit of Islamic jurisprudence. I am not wrong.

1. THE QURANIC FOUNDATION — THE OBLIGATION IS CLEAR:

Allah commands us directly in Surah At-Tahrim (66:6):

"O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones."

The classical scholars of Tafsir (like Al-Tabari, Al-Qurtubi, and Ibn Kathir) explain that "protecting your family" means teaching them, guiding them, and guarding them against disbelief and sin. It is Fard 'Ayn (individual obligation) upon every parent to keep their children on the straight path.

Now ask yourselves, O parents and O scholars: If your child is drowning in a sea of Christmas carols, Christmas lights, Christmas gifts, and a constant barrage of "Jesus loves you, let us celebrate his birth" — and you offer them nothing to counter it, not even a single decorated room, not even a single gift for the Prophet's birthday, not even a single song in his honor — are you truly protecting your family from the Fire?

Allah also says in Surah Al-Ahzab (33:6):

"The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than their own selves..."

This verse establishes that the Prophet ﷺ has a greater claim over us than our own souls. If we claim to love him, but we do not translate that love into tangible, visible, celebratory action, we are liars. If our children see us loving our jobs, our homes, and our comforts more than we love the birth of the Prophet, they will conclude that the verse means nothing. And they will walk away from Islam.

2. THE HADITH EVIDENCE — LOVE IS A CONDITION OF FAITH:

Let us bring the heavy artillery. The Prophet ﷺ said:

"None of you will truly believe until I am more beloved to him than his father, his children, and all of mankind." (Bukhari & Muslim).

Read that again. None of you will truly believe. This is not a suggestion. It is a precondition for complete Iman.

And when Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) told the Prophet ﷺ: "You are more beloved to me than everything except my own self," the Prophet ﷺ replied:

"No, by the One in Whose Hand is my soul, until I am more beloved to you than your own self."

Umar (RA) then affirmed: "Now, by Allah, you are more beloved to me than my own self."

And the Prophet ﷺ declared: "Now, O Umar, NOW you have the complete faith." (Bukhari & Muslim).

Let me connect the dots for you, O scholars and parents:

· Complete Faith (Iman) requires complete love for the Prophet ﷺ.
· If you do not have complete love, you do not have complete Iman.
· If you do not have complete Iman, you are not a complete Muslim.

Now, tell me: How does a child learn this love? Does it fall from the sky? No! They learn it by watching you. If they never see you celebrate his birth, if they never see you give gifts in his honor, if they never hear you sing his praise with visible joy in December while the whole world celebrates Jesus — they will not internalize this love. They will look at you and think: "My parents don't even love their own Prophet enough to throw a party. Why should I?"

And the Prophet ﷺ also said:

"I swear by Allah, I am the most beloved of Allah's creation to Allah, and the most honored with Him. And had it not been for the mercy of Allah, I would not have said this. But I say it so that you may love me and follow me." (Al-Bayhaqi).

He explicitly asks us to love him. And love, in the Arabic language of the Quran and Sunnah, is not a silent whisper in the heart. Al-Mahabbah (love) is action. It is sacrifice. It is celebration. It is joy.

3. THE PROPHET HONORED HIS OWN BIRTH — WHY DON'T WE?!

The Prophet ﷺ was asked about fasting on Mondays, and he replied:

"That is the day on which I was born, and the day on which revelation descended upon me." (Muslim, Abu Dawud, and others).

Subhanallah! The Prophet ﷺ himself honored the day of his birth. He did not say, "Do not celebrate it." He did not say, "It is an innovation." He fasted out of gratitude to Allah for bringing him into existence.

If the Prophet ﷺ himself showed gratitude and honor for his own birthday, then how dare we — especially when our children are surrounded by Christian celebrations — stay silent on the 12th of Rabi' al-Awwal?

Are we more pious than the Prophet ﷺ? No! He fasted. He honored it. We must honor it with even more visible expression to save our youth.

4. THE JURISPRUDENTIAL PRINCIPLE (AL-QAWA'ID AL-FIQHIYYAH) — THE MEANS TAKE THE RULING OF THE ENDS:

Now let us apply the principles of Usul al-Fiqh that all four schools agree upon.

Principle 1: "That which is necessary to fulfill an obligation is itself an obligation." (Ma la yatimmu al-wajibu illa bihi fahuwa wajib).

· The obligation is: Protecting the Iman of my children (from Surah At-Tahrim).
· The means to fulfill that obligation in the West, in the face of the Christmas tsunami, is: Visible, excessive, joyful celebration of the Mawlid to compete with the spirit of Christmas.
· Therefore, the means (Mawlid celebration) becomes OBLIGATORY.

Principle 2: "Blocking the means to harm is obligatory." (Sadd al-Dhara'i).

Imam Malik and all the schools use this principle. If something leads to sin, we block it. If inaction leads to the sin of our children leaving Islam — and the statistics prove it is happening — then inaction is haram. We must block that outcome by taking proactive, joyful action.

Principle 3: "Custom (Urf) changes rulings."

Imam Abu Hanifa explicitly ruled that rulings can change based on the customs and needs of the time and place. The custom of the West is that children are seduced by Christian holidays. The Urf of the West demands that we respond with a Muslim alternative that is more vibrant, more generous, and more joyful.

5. THE CASE STUDY / SURVEY — THE SILENT EPIDEMIC:

Let us be honest. Let us do a simple survey of Muslim families in the West.

Ask the parents: "Does your child ask you about Santa? Does your child ask you why we don't get gifts? Does your child feel left out in December?"

The answer will be a resounding YES.

Now ask the teenagers: "What made you start doubting Islam?"

Many will say: "I saw Christians loving their religion. They had spirit. They had holidays. They had joy. My parents just had rules and punishments. They never celebrated Muhammad ﷺ. They never made me love him."

This is the silent epidemic. Children are leaving — not because of theological arguments, but because of feeling. They feel the love of Jesus from Christians. They feel the joy of Christmas. And they feel nothing for Muhammad ﷺ from us.

If we do not celebrate his birth, how will our children know his birth is significant? If we do not give gifts in his name, how will our children know he was more generous than Santa? If we do not decorate our homes, how will they know his arrival was more important than the arrival of Christmas?

The survey will prove my point. And if the scholars do not believe me, let them conduct their own survey. Let them go to the youth. Let them ask. The answers will break their hearts.

6. MY DIRECT CHALLENGE TO THE FOUR SCHOOLS OF FIQH:

To the Hanafis:

You follow Imam Abu Hanifa, who used Istihsan (juristic preference) to protect the public interest (Maslaha). Where is your Istihsan now? The public interest here is the survival of the Iman of thousands of children. Declare it Fard. Do your job.

To the Malikis:

You follow Imam Malik, who fiercely protected the Sadd al-Dhara'i (blocking the means to harm). Is there any greater harm than losing your children to Christianity? Block this harm! Give parents the green light to celebrate with power!

To the Shafi'is:

You follow Imam Al-Shafi'i, who was a poet who wrote odes of love for the Prophet. He said, "If you do not have love, you have nothing." Why are you silent when love is being stolen from our homes? Declare that expressing this love visibly is now an obligation to compete with the enemies of faith.

To the Hanbalis:

You follow Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, who wept so much at the mention of the Prophet ﷺ that his tears soaked his beard. He burned with love. Where is that fire in your fatwas? Why are you cold and technical while our children burn in the fires of Christian attraction?

My Final Challenge to All of You:

If I am wrong, bring your evidence.
Bring me a single verse from the Quran that forbids celebrating the birth of the Prophet ﷺ when it is done to protect Iman. Bring me a single authentic Hadith that says, "Do not show joy on the day Muhammad was born." You cannot. It does not exist.

The default in the Shariah is permissibility (Ibaha). There is no prohibition against celebration, against giving gifts, against decorating homes, against singing praise. And when the circumstances change (the West), and the need arises (protecting children), the ruling moves from permissible to obligatory.

I am standing on solid ground. I have made my case. I am officially declaring this Fardu Kifaya.

7. THE FINAL VERDICT — MY WORDS TO YOU, O SCHOLARS:

Do not hide behind the lazy accusation of "Bid'ah" while our children are being baptized in the spirit of Christmas.
Do not quote the Salaf out of context while the future of the Ummah is being lost.

If a child leaves Islam because he felt more joy in a church than in his own home — and you, O scholar, could have given the parents the religious authority to make their homes a garden of Mawlid joy, but you stayed silent — that child's blood is on your neck.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever does not show mercy to our young, and does not honor our elders, is not one of us." (Tirmidhi).

Where is your mercy for the young, O scholars? Your mercy should be issuing fatwas that protect them from the wolves of Christian evangelism!

And the Prophet ﷺ said:

"All of my Ummah will enter Paradise except those who refuse." They asked, "Who would refuse, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Whoever obeys me enters Paradise, and whoever disobeys me has refused."

If a parent does nothing to protect their child's love for you, Ya Rasulullah, they are disobeying you. And you, O scholars, if you do not command them to do this, you are complicit in that disobedience.

CONCLUSION — DO NOT BLAME ME ON JUDGMENT DAY:

I have sounded the alarm. I have used the Quran. I have used the Hadith. I have used the principles of Fiqh that all four schools recognize.

I declare: Celebrating the Mawlid visibly in the West is Fardu Kifaya. It is officially mandatory.

If I am wrong, challenge me. Bring your evidence. I will submit immediately.
But if I am right — and I know I am — then do your job, O scholars.

Issue the fatwa.
Give the parents permission to go all out.
Let the homes be green.
Let the gifts be given.
Let the songs be sung.
Let our children know, without a doubt, that Muhammad ﷺ is more loved, more celebrated, and more honored than Jesus will ever be.

If you stay silent, do not blame me on Judgment Day.
I have warned you.
The clock is ticking.
The children are watching.

And their Iman is in your hands.

Your brother in Islam,
Omar
