Your First Visitors After Death Will Be Angels
From the moment you take your last breath, the angels are there—not as distant observers, but as the first to greet you in the next life.
They come with mercy or justice, with light or severity, depending on the life we lived.
What happens in that moment?
Who are these angels?
And how will they greet us?
Tonight, as we welcome the angels of Ramadan, let us reflect on the angels who will one day welcome us into the next life.

1. The Angel of Death: The Final Messenger
The Angel of Death, Malak al-Mawt, has one mission: to take the souls of every living being at the appointed time.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
"Say, ‘The Angel of Death, who has been entrusted with you, will take your soul. Then you will be returned to your Lord.’"
(Surah As-Sajdah 32:11)
For the believers, his arrival is gentle and comforting.
For the wicked, his presence is terrifying and painful.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described the moment of death:
📜 For the righteous:
"When the believer’s soul leaves his body, the angels take it in a silk cloth, fragrant like the best musk, and ascend with it. The gates of heaven open for it, and the angels say: 'A good soul has come from the earth! Welcome!'"
(Sunan Ibn Majah 4262)
📜 For the wicked:
"When the wicked person’s soul is taken, the angels bring foul-smelling cloth and wrap it. As they ascend, the gates of heaven are closed, and the angels say: 'A wicked soul has come from the earth!' It is thrown back, rejected."
(Sunan Ibn Majah 4262)
From the first moment of death, the angels determine how our journey to the Hereafter will begin.

2. The Angels Who Question in the Grave
After the soul is taken, two angels descend into the grave—their names are Munkar and Nakir.
📜 The Prophet ﷺ said:
"When a person is buried, two black and blue angels come to him. One is called Munkar, the other Nakir. They ask: 'Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your Prophet?'"
(Sunan Abi Dawood 4753)
For the believer:
The angels comfort them, and a window to Paradise is opened in their grave.
For the wicked:
The angels strike them, and a window to Hellfire is opened in their grave.
The grave is either a garden from Paradise or a pit from Hell—and the angels are the ones who reveal it to us.

3. The Angels Who Greet Us at Resurrection
On the Day of Judgment, angels will line the heavens and the Earth, awaiting Allah’s command to begin the final reckoning.
📜 "On that Day, the sky will be split apart, and the angels will descend in ranks."
(Surah Al-Fajr 89:22)
For the believers, the angels will greet them with peace:
📜 "Those whom the angels take in death while they are good and pure, saying: ‘Peace be upon you! Enter Paradise for what you used to do!’"
(Surah An-Nahl 16:32)
For the wicked, the angels will drag them to punishment:
📜 "And if you could see when the wrongdoers are in the throes of death while the angels extend their hands [saying], ‘Give up your souls! Today you will be awarded the punishment of humiliation...’"
(Surah Al-An'am 6:93)
The angels of justice and the angels of mercy will both be present that day—which ones will greet us?

4. The Angels Who Welcome Us Into Paradise
After Judgment is complete, the believers will walk toward Paradise, and at its majestic gates, angels will be waiting.
📜 "And those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups, until, when they reach it, its gates will be opened, and its keepers will say, ‘Peace be upon you! You have done well, so enter it forever!’"
(Surah Az-Zumar 39:73)
✔️ They will congratulate us.
✔️ They will call us by our best names.
✔️ They will tell us: 'You have done well, welcome home.'
Imagine that moment—angels standing in honor, welcoming you to eternal peace.

5. The Angels Who Guard Hellfire
For those who rejected faith and spread injustice, angels will not welcome them, but instead, guard over them with punishment.
📜 "O you who believe, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, stern and severe, who do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded."
(Surah At-Tahrim 66:6)
✔️ Angels will chain and drag the disbelievers.
✔️ They will not speak to them with mercy.
✔️ They will not allow escape.
Their duty is justice—but our choice determines if we meet them.

Conclusion: The Angels Are Waiting – What Will They Say to You?
🔹 Malak al-Mawt will take your soul—will it be with ease or terror?
🔹 Munkar and Nakir will question you—will you be able to answer?
🔹 The angels of judgment will witness you—will they bring mercy or punishment?
🔹 The angels at Paradise’s gate will greet you—will you hear ‘Peace be upon you’?
The angels are not only part of this life, but they are the first to greet us in the next.
Tonight, they have descended to witness our worship.
Tomorrow, they will descend to take our souls.
