The Qur’an names this crime without ambiguity. Hypocrisy is not a minor sin. It is not confusion or weakness. It is knowledge weaponized against truth. And for that reason, it is placed in the lowest depths—because the hypocrite does not merely fall; he pulls others down with him.
Socrates stood against that crime.
Not with authority.
Not with power.
Not with followers.
But with something far rarer and far more dangerous:
Uncompromising honesty.
Why Hypocrisy Is the Greatest Threat to Civilization
A liar can be corrected.
A tyrant can be resisted.
An ignorant man can be taught.
But a hypocrite?
He knows the truth.
